I have refined my search to the Buchanan area. My paternal GGGrandparents were Nicholas and Parsena Melnychuk. They followed their son, George, to Buchanan from the Bucovina area of Ukraine. A family history has been done, but I'd like to know of any relatives living in that area. Also, I am not aware of a family history for my maternal Great grandparents, Alex Krishka and Mary Orichuk, also living in Buchanan. Don't know where they were from, maybe Bucovina, also? Can anyone offer any information?

Hi! My name is Katie Melnychuck and I am trying to learn more about my family... My grandfathers parents came over here from Russian in the early 1900's... At Ellis Island my great grand fathers last name was Melayczuk (I believe that is how they spelled it).. When he came to the United States they shortened it to Melnychuck... If you have any information about my family please email me back at katiemel11@yahoo.comI really appreciate this... Thankyou... I would like to get the family together...

Katie,
Good luck in your research. I don't think any of the Melnychuk in our family are related to yours. Our family name didn't change much from the Ukraine to Canada; I think it just went from Melnyczuk to Melnychuk. I have been told the Melnychuk is the equivalent of Miller and is common in the Ukraine.
My great-grandfather originally came to the US in 1906, worked and saved money, returned to the Ukraine for his family and then went to Canada instead (US closed immigration and Canada's offer of land to settlers).

I am great grandson of Alex Krishka
My name is John Krishka and I am the grandson of John Krishka Senior, Alex Krishka's son. I came across your letter on the web when searching for info on my family history. Any info that you may have on the Krishka family I would enjoy looking at. I'm afraid that I cannot supply you with more info on the Krishka's before Alex and Mary, but I can tell you their decendants as they are my uncles, cousins, and other family members. By the way, my grandpa John is Edith Krishka's brother. Thank you.

As a result of my great-granfather's recent passing in Winnipeg, Manitoba, I am very interseted in any information in regards to my last name Millerson, which is the English translation to the Ukrainian Melnychuck. My great-grandfather came to Canada in the early 1900s, and as far as I know, had at least a sister. My grandfather translated our surname to Millerson in the late 1960s. We live in the Southern Ontario region, and I wonder if there are any relatives also in the area. Please email me at misbrandy@yahoo.ca if you have any information.
