His Life While Crossing Hole River
When the toboggan and five dogs which he was driving went through the ice in Hole River, Nov. 26,William Cook, 20, only son of James Cook, of Hole River Lake, lost his life, according to word received In Winnipeg
The victim of the accident was returning homo from English Brook, where he had gone for the mall. A pal, Charlie Jones, following his trail four hours later, discovered four of the dogs on the ice, with the toboggan partly submerged.

He notified Charles Sjogren, of English Brook, who very nearly lost his life in recovering the body.
William had apparently put up a fight for life and had broken about 75 or 100 feet of ice. There was no water in his lungs.
He is survived by his father, James Cook, of Hole River Lake, and one sister, Mrs. G. Duval, 657 Aberdeen avenue, Winnipeg, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Beaudry, also of Winnipeg. His mother died four years ago.
He had been employed by J.Wainstock, miner, until recently. The funeral was held Sunday at Bad Throat, Man. (end of Free Press report)
Brandon Sun had a brief report that referred to William as a "northern mail carrier" and said Hole River was approx. 75 miles north of Winnipeg in the Lake Winnipeg area.

MRS. J.H. COOK, JESSIE AVE., DIES FOLLOWING OPERATION
The death occurred yesterday at St. Boniface Hospital of Mabel Ellen, wife of J.H. Cook, of Jessie Ave. About two weeks ago, Mrs. Cook underwent an operation for appendicitis and appeared to be making a good recovery, as she returned from the hospital on Sunday. On Monday, however, she suffered a stroke and though hurried to the hospital she was beyond medical aid and died the following day.
She leaves, besides her husband, a daughter, Pearl, 18, and a son, William, 16, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Beaudry, Chalmers Ave., and 3 sisters and one brother. Funeral from Gardiner Funeral Home to Elmwood Cemetery (Winnipeg).
Free Press, Oct.1963 has an obit with photo of James Henry Cook, died Oct. 12, 1963 at Winnipeg, age 81, husband of Victoria Evelyn Cook. Buried St. Matthews Cem. at Cloverdale, Man. Survived by wife, dau. Pearl (Mrs. Gordon DuVal) of Winnipeg, a stepdau. Mrs. Thos. Anthony (Phyllis) of Detroit, 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
