Virden War Memorial - photo please

Surnames: JEFFERY
I'm hoping SKS who lives in or near Virden can get a photo of the war memorial for me, and a closeup of the WW1 names on it, in particular the name H. JEFFERY.

Thank you!

There are three histories of Virden online. Go to a website called Manitobia (that's the correct spelling--it ends with ia), click on English, then click on Books, and scroll down to Virden. Click on Virden --three titles appear. It might not be easy to find what you want, but persevere.
There is also a new and good history of Virden, not on this site. Next time I'm at a library where it's held, I'll look for a list of the names on the monument.

Hi,
I'm not sure if you've obtained a photo yet, but I am wondering if you have found any information about the H Jeffery you make reference to. I'm gathering information about the names on the cenotaph for the Manitoba Historical Society and he's one of only a few remaining for whom I can't find a specific connection to Virden thus confirming the identity.

There are there H. Jeffery's listed on the Virtual Memorial:
http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/remembrance/memorials/canadian...

The only one with a link to Manitoba is Harry Jeffery (service number 81455) who enlisted in Winnipeg. But that doesn't mean that the other two didn't. Or that the spelling of the name is correct on the war memorial. Or that he didn't die in the 1920s after they stopped adding names to the Virtual Memorial for WWI.

Thanks,

Darryl R. Toews

Hi Darryl,

H. Jeffery was Harry # 81445. I've done a writeup for him here and you'll see the Virden connection in his obituary under "Images":
http://www.canadiangreatwarproject.com/searches/soldierDetai...

He's also commemorated on the cenotaph in Sioux Lookout, Ontario along with his brother who died in November 1916.

Thank you for confirming that the H Jeffery is Harry #81445. I'll add his details to my list for the Virden war memorial that I'll be sending to the Manitoba Historical Society for their page on the Virden memorial.
