Re: Mcleod GLADSTONE/PORTAGE AREA
Here is the McLeod Family story - submitted by Charlie Thomson. I will put my comments in parenthesis.
"John McLeod and family moved from some part of Saskatchewan and arrived in Golden Stream sometime in 1898. He bought a farm right across the road from Wm. Clayton, SR." (I find John and wife Emma on the 1891 Census of NWT, Assiniboine East, Qu'appelle. John's age is 41, place of birth is PEI, both parents born in Scotland. Emma's age is 30, place of birth is England, both parents born England. They have children Mary E. age 6, born NWT and William A. age 3 born NWT)
"Mrs. McLeod was a daughter of Wm. and Mrs.Clayton,Sr." (I find a marriage between John McLeod and Emma Clayton on 1 January 1884 in RM of Westbourne on the Manitoba Vital Statistics on-line database.)
"They had 3 daughters, Elizabeth, Margaret and Agnes, and one son Bill. John passed away in 1903 a victim of tuberculosis." (John must have passed away earlier than 1903 because on the 1901 Manitoba Census, Emma is already a widow with 4 children.)
"Lizzie married the Rev. Jones" (Elizabeth Mary McLeod married John Phillips Jones 31 July 1907, RM of Westbourne - Man. Vital Stat.) "Agnes married Nick Hornsby" (Agnes Ethelyn McLeod married Nicholas Hornsby on 24 Nov 1915 in Winnipeg - MVS) "Margaret was drowned in a boating accident on the Red River near Winnipeg. Bill married Laurena Stewart of Golden Stream." (William Alexander McLeod married Mary Laura Stewart on 19 Nov 1913 at RM of Westbourne - MVS)
"After Bill's mother died, he took over the farm but during the depression he tried the oil business in Neepawa. However, when things began to improve he went back to farming close to Gladstone and as time went on he made good. He sold the farm and retired in Kelowna, BC. They had 2 daughters, both in the nursing profession."
On the 1901 Census there are full birth dates for Emma and all the children if you are interested. I use Automated Genealogy site as it is indexed. There is lots of information on the Clayton families and you mentioned the McConnells - lots of them too, as they all lived in the Golden Stream area just south east of Gladstone. If you want more just let me know.

Re: Mcleod GLADSTONE/PORTAGE AREA
I meant to mention that you could obtain the marriage document for John McLeod and Emma Clayton and that would probably tell you who his parents were - but then you may already know that. Manitoba Vital Statistics are available at: http://vitalstats.gov.mb.ca/Query.phpCost is about $12. when you use the on-line order document.

Hello Ted, I see you are looking for information on William Andrew Carefoot and Margaret May Grantham. William and Margaret are my grandparents. What information would you like to know about them? All of their 8 children were born in Gladstone, MB. Look forward to hearing from you. Helen McNabb
