Frank Shebeck family from Bohemia
Frank Shebeck and family came from Bohemia and purchased a farm somewhere in Manitoba, probably near Winnipeg, sometime in the 1890s. They were assisted by a Catholic Priest in Bohemia working with another priest somewhere in Manitoba. They lived there a few years and then went to Minnesota. Some of the family members were John, Joseph, Wenzel, Maria, and Rosa. They do not seem to be in the 1891 Canadian Census. I need suggestions about how to find any records on this family. Many thanks, Ray

Re: Frank Shebeck family from Bohemia
Frank Shebeck (Franz Sebek), born in 1848, was my wife's grandfather. His wife was Anna Lev. They came over on the steamer Rhynland from Antwerp in the early part of 1888 and went first to Winnipeg area for a year or two before moving into North Dakota. They had 3 sons, Wenzel (Jim), Joe, and John, and 5 or 6 daughers (I am doing this from memory) Mary, Barbara, Dora, Josie, and Rose. (I think I omitted one of the daughters.) They bought a farm SW of Wahpeton in 1901 and later bought another one in Tintah, Minnesota. My wife has a cousin Adolph Shebeck, age 91, still living in Fargo. Now, who are you and how do you fit in this family tree? I hope you have some info that I don't have. When you get your computer fixed, email me. In the meanwhile, post another msg on the bulletin board. Ray

Re: Frank Shebeck family from Bohemia
As mentioned previously, Frank Shebek had 3 sons: Wenzel who went by the name Jim, Joseph, and John. Joseph was born about 1886 in Europe and had one son named Philip. I know nothing of Philip or his sister Zita. Wenzel, the oldest had 3 sons: Edward, Adolph, and Paul. I believe that Edward served in WW1 after which time he apparently lived in Illinois, but I am not certain. I believe that he died in Illinois. Your line may be thru Wenzel and Edward instead of Joseph and Philip. I will be very interested in what you learn from your father. Ray

Re: Frank Shebeck family from Bohemia
Ray, I was wondering if you knew if Frank had a sister named Josephine Shebek, born January 6, 1844. She married Albert Kostal. According to my great aunt, Albert Kostal came to America July 4, 1866 with the Sebek Family from Bohemia. After arriving here, he married Josephine. They lived in Iowa City and Riverside, Iowa from 1866 to 1880. Then moved to O'Dell. NE in Oct. 1880. Thanks, Kim

Re: Frank Shebeck family from Bohemia
There may be a connection. Frank Shebeck (Sebek) was born in 1848 and came from Bohemia in 1888 with his family including a daughter name Josephine who was born in 1884. Unfortunately, we know nothing of Frank Shebeck's family (mother, father, sisters, etc.) We have hit a stone wall. We do know that Frank was an Army Officer before coming here. Does that give you a clue. Would love to hear more from you. Ray

Re: Frank Shebeck family from Bohemia
My father's and mother's families are both from the Wahpeton area. I remember my mom talking about an Adolph Shebeck, in fact, I think I have an article about him at home. My father's name is Irvin Shebeck son of Rachael & John Shebeck, he had a brother Paul, two sisters Beatrice and Peggy - all of them are deceased. I have a brother Jim and a brother Ron (deceased) Please contact me if you want to get together and talk about more family members. Thanks
