I've found registrations to provide much more information then any certificate (latter gives only the basic information whereas the registration gives the name of informants, the .. often, occupation, residence, cause of death)

In the case of marriage registrations there are often witnesses who appear over and over for each generation.

BEST of all, at times the local LDS http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp often has the same information (or will order it in) so, you too, can get lost in the wonderful world of scanning microfiche records :))
