Smith in Peace River, Alberta, before 1920, how to research?

John Smith d. 1922, Tuscola County, Michigan. Wife Sarah Amelia Smith d. 1940. Estate file and both obits say sons William and Irvin / Irwin / Erwin were residents in Peace River, Alberta.

I don't know how to search in Peace River or Alberta and really need some quidance.

Erwin or Irvin, b. Pennsylvania, USA, 1876, was married to Charlotte Allison in Jan 1901, and had three children in Tuscola County, Michigan, USA. He disappeared and Charlotte remarried and lived in Caro, Tuscola County, Michigan. Erwin appeared in the estate and obituaries of both his parents in 1922 and 1940. William was b. 1884 in Michigan.

Would like to locate deaths and burials of John Smith and William Smith. Did they have families? Are there death or marriage records for John and William Smith?

Gloria Hall, 1405 Hunt Rd, Mayville, Michigan 48744
trublehall@centurytel.net

Guy DART family

Hello:

Looking for any information on family (ancestors/descendants) of Guy C. DART of Fort St. John, d. 1977. This MIGHT be the son of Almon DART, whose brother Jay Andrew DART was my wife's grandfather. We have been unable to trace her DART line past her grandfather, Jay A. DART who died in North Dakota circa 1935.

Jay DART owned land in ND in 1910, adjacent to land of Almon DART, who is thought to have moved to British Columbia around that time. He is known to have had a son named Guy, and at least 2 daughters.

I would very much appreciate hearing from anyone having any info on the DART family of Fort St. John, BC- knowing whereabouts of living family members, whatever.

Robert Ward
Kingston, New Brunswick
Scheck confusion

I think I have been looking for information based on misinformation! I've been looking for John Scheck, married to Helen Scheck with a daughter Eva Scheck born in 1910.

I think the Scheck's I am looking for are Adam (b. 1888, Russia, d. 1972, Dawson Creek) and Elizabeth (b. 1889, d. 1966, Dawson Creek). Children include Adam (b. 1905), Elizabeth (b. 1908) and Eva (b. 1910).

This family is listed in the Battleford SK 1911 Census and I think the Eva is my Grandmother however, her month of birth on the census states March and the information I have is Sept. 1910.

If this information is included in anyone else's family history, I'd really like to hear from you.

Treasured Chronicles II North Peace History Project 2007

Hello North Peace River Region residents!
My name is Kate Lowes, I am working with the Treasured Chronicles II project in Dawson Creek.
We are working on a government funded project to collect the history of the North Peace Region by interviewing the elders (60+ years) of the area. We are covering the territory from Taylor up the Alaska Highway to Pink Mountain, out highway 29 to Farrell Creek, the Community of Goodlow, up the the Doig River, Peejay and Prespatou area (and all the communities in between)
Our goal is to interview over 200 elders before mid May of 2007. Clips of highlights from each will be used to make a nearly one hour movie on the development of the North Peace Area until 1960.
Each of those interviews will then be transcribed and copies made. One copy, along with the transcription will be donated to the North Peace Historical society. This, I feel is the gem of the endeavour.
These interviews will be free for the public to access. In years to come your descendants could look up your interview and any other where your name might be mentioned. With this in mind you may want to send out a special message or recall a particular family tale for the future generations.
Interviews generally take around 30-45 minutes with the whole process generally taking a little over an hour.
We would love to speak to the pioneer families of the area and hope anyone who is interested in being interviewed or has suggestions of people to talk to will contact us.
Emails can be sent to my personal address or to:
treasuredchronicles@shaw.ca

Surnames & events of particular interest to us:
Alexander
Anderson
Armstrong
Babcock
Bailie
Frank Worth Beaton Family
Beattie
Bell
Birley
Boring
Brady
Brown
Cadenhead
Callison
Carrier
Clark(e)
Clovis
Cox
Darnall
Davis
Donis
Dopp
Evans
Feenie
Clark Finch
Framst
Gilchrist
Peter & Bessie Gunn
Hadland
Hargreaves
Hazlett
Hill
Hunter
Kyllo
J. I know they had one daughter Marguerite, but am trying to find out more about Ira. His father David was brother to my GG Grandfather William Vandewater.

Willie Armstrong
Whitby, ON
pmann@idirect.com

I have found graves that I would need information of, they are all in Prince George, and then of course what ever information is available, like obituaries or even death certificates that would be available through Archives.
Can anybody help out??

Does anyone know of the DEMEAN family that lived in the Dawson Creek, Pouce Coupe, Tupper Creek about 1930's. My great grandfather was murdered in Tupper Creek in 1935 and I am just looking for some more information on his brother, John Frederick DEMEAN who was possibly killed in a fire about 1932. We know he is buried there but that is all the information that I have. Thanks if someone could shed some more light on this family.

Lyman Oliver HAUGER

Born in 1919, Lyman Oliver HAUGER was the husband of a female (name unknown) whom he married in 1943 at the age of 24 years.

His wife gave birth to a son, Edgar HAUGER, in 1944.

Lyman Oliver HAUGER was killed on 15 October 1946 in an automobile accident at a railway crossing in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada, at the age of 27 years.

His widow, gave birth to another son in 1951 (the name of the father is not known). She also gave birth to a daughter in 1953 (the name of the father is not known).

She subsequently re-married in 1955 and relocated to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where she died 14 December 1958 due to complications of pregnancy.

At the time of her death, she left behind three children - all by different fathers. She also left behind a "current" husband to mourn her death.

In 1988, I spoke over the telephone to a woman by the name of Charlotte HAUGER of Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, who confirmed many details about this HAUGER family - including the fact that the man killed 15 Oct 1946 was her full "biological" brother. From the type of conversation that I had with Charlotte HAUGER, I would guess that she was probably born in the 1920's. After our initial interview, she then refused to cooperate or assist me any further and instructed me to "not contact her again".

In summary, my children's mother's mother is dead; the identity my children's mother's father will probably never be known.

It would be interesting to know more detail about my children's mother's mother and my children's mother's two half-brothers - born in 1944 and 1951.

Would it be possible for someone to check with the local Dawson Creek newspaper and library? I am sure that an automobile accident of this magnitude would have been reported in the local newspapers. Perhaps the article would indicate the name of the "1946" widow and other crucial details! Thank you very much!

I am looking for information on my grandfather Alfred William Sharp who was known to be the postmaster at Dawson Creek in the early 1940s. I believe he came to Canada sometime in the late 1920s from England and served in the air force during the second world war. I also believe he was married to Elizabeth "Ma" Sharp. He died in 1973 and she died in 1986. My sister and I would be interested in hearing from any possible relatives as well.

Please reply direct to Sueturnpenny@hotmail.com
