I did look at the BC Archives and didnot find anything but I will send that to you

I found a couple William Smiths in the ssdi Social Security Death Index that were born in 1884 but do you have an exact date of birth? That would narrow the choices down.
Another thought would be to check the census. You can either search ancestry of Heritage Quest. Ancestry is costly but you can usualy access this at most libraries. Heritige Quest many libraries offer this on-line and you can access at home with your library card at your libraries website.
