Sylvia (Homer) Wiley Obit
I got Sylvia's obituary. So, now I know that I do have living cousins out there somewhere. Still working on obits for Vernon Seaman and Robert Seaman, since I don't know which of Sylvia's grandchildren belong to which man.

Hi Some Public Libraries - may hold newsapers in their collection - where News stories & Obituaries can be found. If Funeral Home is known - they may take information for the Registration of Death - they may also take information if an OBITUARY was to have been published.; Records are kept Perhaps they can help -
Vancouver Public Library - 5th floor - Main Branch - Georgia Street - Vancouver Holds newspapers in their collection - also in Special Collections section - Many obituaries from across the province might appear Vancouver Sun / Province newspaper Don't know their policy - about lookups - and charges - might be worth a try. Otherwise - perhaps someone in the Vancouver /Lower mainland - area may offer help

Thanks very much for the information, sstanger1. I hadn't thought about checking in Vancouver. I'm down in California, but I may be able to find a volunteer up there. :)

Re: Vernon SEAMAN divorce from Sylvia SEAMAN in 1944 WA
From The Spokane Daily Chronicle - Friday October 20, 1944, page 9 -
"Vernon SEAMAN divorced Sylvia SEAMAN when he testified she had left him in 1935 taking their two children with her. He said he had not seen the children since. They are now 9 and 11 years old. She was given the custody of the children and $50 a month support money."

Re: Sylvia (Homer) Wiley Obit
Boy you've got a lot of new cousins! And how great to have a picture of Sylvia. Hopefully someone can access the obituaries for Vernon and Robert, and also grandson Dean, but in the meantime I'll see if I can find anything that might indicate who belongs to whom.
I am wondering if Ralph Seaman may have adopted Vernon McKenzie. Vernon was just a baby when his mom married Ralph and it appears he used the name a lot more than just on his wedding certificate. I'm pretty sure you had to have some sort of identification to get a marriage licence in Washington state in those days.
Also, I find that little newspaper article about divorce a bit amusing. According to the records, Vernon was living in Trail in 1935, maybe even 1936 (they usually got the information for directories late in the year before the publishing year). In 1935/36 he left Trail and Sylvia and the two kids stayed, at the same address, until she remarried. And she was in the directory every year. So she sure wasn't hiding and all Vernon had to do was go to Trail if he wanted to see them. A lot easier than Sylvia and the two kids having to schlep down to see him. And, he was going by Seaman in that article.
Off to see if I can find which grandchildren were Vernon's and which were Robert's.
Cheers,
Soosi
PS
I'm going camping this weekend - haven't done so in years. We were talking about our favourite camping spots last night and I said that mine was Kennedy Meadows in the Stanislaus National Forest. I came in to post this reply and saw your remark about living in California so went to your profile to see if you'd put what part. Lo and behold you're in Sonora which was always our last stop before we headed into the mountains. Small world.
