Does anyone know if there are still records of the residents or their deaths from the Provincial Home for Old Men?
I have looked at the provincial archives but cannot find any records.

I am looking for some of the gold fields pioneers who were sent here in the late 1800s.

Hi, In British Columbia ????

Have you checked with the Provincial Archive - written a letter or ? to see if they hold records?
*Deaths in B.C. should appear 1872-1988
Happy New Year 2009 - Cheers Stella

Yes, I've looked at the PABC in person and scoured the online searches.
No luck, or else I've missed it somehow.

Post some of the names you are researching - may help! others to help you. sometimes we miss something by looking right at it ourselves -
Had you checked some of the Census for the time frame of interest/

Good ideas. I will check the census.

Problem is I have a bunch of folks who just disappear. I can't post them all but if I was to see the records I could check backwards and I have a pretty good record of recognizing names.
I have a database of 5000 men (and that's only a portion of them) and mining licenses for thousands more, who were in the gold rush and death dates for about 450. I'm trying to fill in holes but it is hard to know who went to the Old Men's Home. I usually make a list, import it into my database and then match them up.

Thanks

Stella;

Looks like a great book. I will have to find a copy - the attached PDF only prints out some of the article but it looks like material I have to read. At $65 I might try a library. Looks like fascinating stuff.
I did find an article on the Kamloops Old Men's Home which says most of the burials are unmarked.
It is surprising to me how old some of these men were - many into their 80s.

That's why I like a database - it allows lots of comparisons, averages etc.
Thanks again

Hi, Perhaps some of the men - went of to other locations?
Followed the resources - even into their old age - Some may have come into towns etc unknown to anyone - passed away and buried in local paupers graves etc. It must be extremely difficult to attempt to find many of these men.
Perhaps some gave up mining and went on to other things.
Wishing you much luck with your research. Hopefully someone at this board - will be able to come up with something helpful.
Cheers, Stella

Good Morning Richard
I can see the Burial ground of the Home for Old Men from my house. I can't remember the whole story, but I believe it was vandalized and there are only 1 or 2 headstones left.I don't know if there are records of those who lived there. Our archives is only open 4 days a week for 4 hours each day.I could check for you if you like.But I don't think anything they have is online or computer.I do know that any man that lived there have no where else to go. Someone here will know if there are records and where they are.

Thanks Carol;
I know the Kamloops archives/museum has a paper on the Home and the graves that I found on line but there is nothing to indicate whether or not they have records.
Any help appreciated.
