Hello Carol, I found my John Rollo Smith and his family and I did contact his youngest daughter Virginia Lee but have had no other contact from her. I have managed to find more of the Smith (dreadful name to trace) but there are still a few gaps. I normally only do direct line of descent but being a bit bored one day, I decided to look into my mother's maternal grandparents side. Perhaps you know what happened to a couple of the brothers as I have had no success.
Incidentally, I Skyped with John's brother David's grand daughter last night in Fife. I live in Australia. I would be happy to share my tree info with you if you are interested.
Marleen

Hi Mark, you don't know me but I am the daughter of Violet Gairdner( Thrasher). I am doing the geneology for the family and I came across the posting you left in 2003. Please contact me and I will try to help you with your questions. David is Violet's son. Violet is still alive and lives in a care home in White Rock,BC. She is now 93 years old ( will be 94 in Aug.) and although her memory is a bit foggy she still has amazing recall. She does not have dementia. Violet had a total of 12 children. The first 4 were when she was very young and not married and were given up for adoption. When she married she was able to get one daughter back. Mom and dad went on to have 8 more kids. We need to keep an open mind and realize that things were different during wartime and her story is so much like so many others.
Thank you Stella, This post is the topic I've been mulling over! It is always a little concerning when you a locate a descendant that you would like to share family history with in hopes they might become the might also want to participate. Many people are understandably concerned by someone contacting you from a family you didn't know existed claiming kinship and talking about families. Many never get over the belief you aren't after money even when you clearly state you aren't. Part of my interest is in hopes of inspiring some DNA confidential DNA testing for genealogy and I'm uncertain as to what the views are in Canada regarding this subject. I know many Canadian subscribers at Ancestry.ca are expressing interest in it but none of lines are even researching. If I make contact with living descendants do I risk offending the majority by bringing up at some point? I really appreciate any feedback you might have. Thank you, Dawn

I'm trying to find a living relative of my cousin Mary Louise(Williams)Thirlwell. She was born in Davenport, Scott, Iowa 10 October 1892 to Frank Elliot Williams(1866-1898) and Louise Mary Falkner(1871-?). Her father died in 1898 and her mother re-married to Jacob Stofft(1854-1915). Jacob had been previously married and had 3 children. In 1911 they moved to Canada where he died in 1915. Mary Louise was married by then to Edmund Wright Thirlwell(1883-1957). When Mary Louise died 17 February 1981 in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. Her death certificated listed her daughter as Constance Marie Hamel. I'm trying to find more information on her and if she had any children. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You can reply to this or e-mail me directly at
95bluemonkey95@gmail.com

HI, OOHH I've tried just about everything. I have had contact with a grand-daughter with one of Katie's sisters out in Manitoba. She also is looking for information about the family. I filled her in with the family. Where they all are and what village they came from in S.E. Poland. I am going to request an original copy of their Naturalization papers and hope it gives more information. Tried numerous spelling variations for the both of them. I have a copy of her siblings marriages in Manitoba. Where they married is a mystery!! Keeps me busy though in a good way. :) Thank You for replying. I recently received a reply from someone informing me that I posted on too many boards and I went over the board guidelines?! I didn't know you had to limit your posts?.

Yes thank you I did search the NFB. Apparently there was a copy at the U of Calgary but couldn't be found and not in BC either which is odd since it was filmed here.I actually found it at the U of Oregon, the librarian is hoping to transfer it to DVD so I can purchase a copy.
I have been trying for a few years now to find a marraige for Fred Ladanchuk and Kathryn Mudryk. Variations on spelling. I was told they married in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Found siblings for Kathryn Mudryk but not her. Marriage could have taken place between 1915-1925. Any help would be appreciated, Thank You.
