Walker/Koelkenbeck in Ashcroft
John WALKER (b. 1836, SCT) immigrated to Seaforth, Huron Co.,ON, where he married Margaret Elliot GRIEVE (b. 1840, m. 1860). At least two of their children moved to B.C., John Grieve WALKER (1871-1914) lived in Ashcroft and Robert Scott WALKER (1874-1915) lived near Ioco. John Grieve married Emma KOELKENBECK (below) and Robert Scott died in a canoing accident in the inlet.
Hermann Joseph P. KÖLKENBECK (b. 1862, Antwerp, BEL, d. 1917, Kamloops) married Wilhelmine KORN (b. 1866, Neustadt, DEU, d. 1930, New Westminster) and emigrated to the USA and finally BC in 1903 (New Westminster, 1903, Spence's Bridge, 1905, Ashcroft, 1906, Clinton, 1916).
Their 6 children spent all or part of their lives in BC. Emma Mary (1888-1974) remained in Ashcroft and married John Grieve WALKER and then William Connor ADAM. Other children were Hermann (1889-1969, Vancouver), Magna Wilhelmine (1894-1976, Bralorne and White Rock), Elsie Sophia (b. 1897, to CA), Gertrude Eva (1899 to Yakima, WA), and Arthur Munster (1904 to CA).
I would like to exchange information with anyone who has knowledge of these families.

Some of my family was from Clinton (not far from Ashcroft) and they were Walkers. Not sure about John Walker though, I would have to look thru some old papers of my grandparents.Try the High Country Region, you can check the early census or post on their query pages also check the old cemetaries. Good luck.

Thanks for the link Cindi. John Grieve Walker had apparently been in the Cariboo since 1891 and may have lived in Quesnel (gold commissioner) and Clinton before being married in Ashcroft in 1909.

Re: Walker/Koelkenbeck in Ashcroft
Hi Brian, this is your cousin Sandy McGowan (Waddell). This is the first time i have checked this site and then i saw your posting. It was great to see it. I have been looking for info on the family for a long time but wasn't getting to far. I didn't know the Great Grandparents moved to BC. My grandma didn't keep any paperwork at all. All i had was her birth certificate to go on. I also forgot there was a sister Elsie. I am going to the library on monday and search for any certificates i can find. Will let you know if i find anything. Glad i found out this info. Hear from you soon, Sandy

Re: Walker/Koelkenbeck in Ashcroft
Hi Sandy, I have quite a bit of information on your grandmother, Magna Koelkenbeck and her ancestors, including her certificate of marriage to Melville Waddell. They were married in Princeton. I will contact you privately. Good to hear from you. Brian

Re: Walker/Koelkenbeck in Ashcroft
Hi all,
I just wrote Brian privately, but wanted to put a post on the board. I am the grand-daughter of Arthur Munster (Koelkenbeck) Kingston, one of Herman and Wilhemina's six children (I believe the youngest). Anyways, I'm trying to find additional information, particularly about the Munster line. I was told that there was Jewish blood in our ancestry, but I'm interested to know if this is correct. I know that Emma Sophia Munster, born in 1833 was married to Herman Ludwig Ignace Louis Kolkenbeck, and her father was Paul Lovenorn Munster. I have no information about her mother at all. Apparently, Paul Lovenorn was born in 1783 in Denmark and served in the Danish Consular Service, Knight of the Danish Order. Any other information you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Walker/Koelkenbeck in Ashcroft
Paul Lovernorn Munster was married to Magna Horrebow or Horrobow. She was born in 1796, the daughter of Professor Horrebow and his wife Sophie. Magna lived most of her later life in Belfast (as Mrs P.L. Munster).

Re: Walker/Koelkenbeck in Ashcroft
Hello Pamela and all, My name is Eva and I just learned that I have distant cousins in Canada where I live since 40 years. My father was Ernst A. Koelkenbeck who died on New Year's Eve 1950 in Jena, East-Germany. I think he was the youngest brother of Hermann Joseph Kölkenbeck who changed his name to Kingston. I had no idea that he emigrated from England to Canada. I would love to get in contact with Brian Slough and others and would be grateful for some more information abaout my Canadian relions! Thank you so much Eva Waldron
