Hello!

I was able to find George Levkulich's death certificate which I'm attaching. He died on 18 April 1978 in Victoria,BC. It says he was born 16 April 1899 in the Ukraine to Mike Levkulich and Annie Kuvenka. It gives his wife's name as Mary Cimones, which is a misspelling. The record was signed by Joe Orsula, a friend. I looked up Joe and he had been a neighbour of George's since about 1950.

I also found the death record for George's wife Mary Simasz Levkulich. She was born 6 February 1907 in Poland to Peter Simasz and Paraska Kusnirek. She died 11 February 1956 in Victoria at only 45.

I haven't yet been able to find when and where they were married. I also haven't been able to find if they had any children.

I found George on two passenger lists going from Prince Rupert, BC to Ketchikan, Alaska listed as a miner doing prospecting. The first is in November 1936 and he's listed as single living in Atlin, BC (quite a remote place). The second is in May 1947 and he's listed as married living in Victoria, BC.

I have found George in the Victoria Directory, starting in 1943, always living at 1471 Hamilton. The first few years he's listed as an employee at the Victoria Machinery Depot. In 1950 he's listed as a cleaner at the Empress Hotel (which is a very posh landmark here). In 1950 the listing goes from just showing "George Levkulich" to "George (Mary) Levkulich".

I'll let you know if I'm able to find anything else.

Cheers,

Soosi

George was naturalized a Canadian on 21 October 1932, document 97830 A. He was listed as a miner living in Princeton, BC.
