Re: Obit: Reginald A TAGGART bn 1904 Belfast, died 1994 Canada
Hi, I had to contact you because in your Tree you have a Reginald A. Taggart. I have done quite a bit of research on my Taggart (which is also my name before marriage, plus I came from Belfast). My fathers brother was also a Reginald (William) Taggart born on 07 Apr 1901 and died 15 Sep 1947. I have been trying to find another Reginald in our tree as names were usually passed down so much but yours is the only one I have come across. Also, a lot of your Taggart names turn up in mine as well. I wonder if we could be connected. Please contact me as soon as you can to compare notes if you would.

Hi - my name is Mark Armstrong. My Grandfather was John Reginald Taggart from Belfast in Northern Ireland who told me of an uncle of his who emigrated to Canada and became a Mountie. Is this the same branch of the Taggart clan? Kind Regards

Re: Obit: Reginald A TAGGART bn 1904 Belfast, died 1994 Canada
My Grandfather had a serialised account of his uncles exploits in the Mounties which had been published in a Canadian newspaper. Do you have a copy of this and if so is it on-line
Kind Regards
Mark Armstrong

No I do not have it. I saw it many years ago and would like to get a copy myself. I am not sure about the Canadian newspaper. The one I saw was from New York and it was about 1928 or 1929. I by chance you track it down please let me know so I can get a copy also.

Although not the newspaper article you are seeking, here are a few references to his extraordinary exploits in the North; http://tinyurl.com/d6zx9n8Honoured in Places: Remembered Mounties Across Canada by William J. Hulgaard Taggart Lake in Nunavut is named after Reginald A Taggart, in honour of his 1929 patrol with Inspector Joy. Taggart served in the RCMP from May 27 1927 to December 7 1957, serving in seven divisions and retiring as a sergeant. In 1929, his exploration of Ellesmere Island covered 2736 Km in 81 days. For details of the trip, see the Joy River entry in this book. Also see: http://pubs.aina.ucalgary.ca/arctic/arctic56-1-101.pdfhttp://www.electriccanadian.com/forces/rcmp/book5.htm
