Hello Taunya,
I had been searching for your and your granmother's surnames through 411, as I had made the connections some time back, although not sure now without looking at my George Barker Ward's file!
I did send an email to you through the address you left, and look forward to hearing from you and or your granmother
Earl
Hello,
My name is Taunya Sawatsky. My grandmother is Gerry McKay (nee Morris) and is George's granddaughter. She has done a lot of research on the family and has some wonderful memories & stories to share.
There was one reply from Lesley Austin on this post. My grandmother didn't know Lesley but I knew her father well. He was my Great-Grandmother's first cousin and they lived on the same street as my grandmother and great grandparents.
I have forwarded your email (from an earlier thread of this conversation) to my grandmother, she is interested in contacting you. alternately my email is taunyasawatsky@gmail.com
Do you have any new info on James Grinder; or any of Philip Grinder's family in Pennsylvania?
How about Grant Grinder? Was he a nephew of Philip's or was that Grant Lee? Any information will help get me back on track to continue the search on our family tree. Thanks Carla, and hope you and your family are well.
Audrey

I know she had more children as my grandmother Florence Lydia Chadwick nee Mott, Lottie's niece, communicated with a cousin/2nd cousin for many years. The family settled in Vernon.

He died in Provincial care, and no family member filled out the death cert, it was filled out by a trustee. I can find him in 1900 in Illinois, and sweet jack before that.

I have Rinta's side back into the 1600's, it's Jack's I can't find.

Floyd Lee was called by one and all , Little Joe.... he was my grandfather.
Lone Butte Miller family

Am seeking information on a family named Miller, that lived in the Lone Butte/Bridge Lake region in the 1930's and 1940's. It was a large family, and notable in that Mrs. Miller had a wooden leg.

The Old Man was Jack Miller. Every single one of their children was called by something other than their birth name. And the only thing Jack Miller knew, apparently, was horses.

It's Jack Miller's family I'm trying to find.Jack was really John. I've seen his name spelled John More Miller, and John Moore Miller. The information on his death certificate has been a dead end, it wasn't filled out by a family member and has proven inaccurate.I know that he was in Illinois for the 1900 US Census, and is listed as John Moore Miller....his wife was Rinta Inez Appleman, it was thru her that I found him in the US, and Illinois is where her family is from.

I know the family was in OK in 1917, where a son was born.... I know the famiy was in ID in 1923, a son was born there.... but Jack Miller eludes me. He worked with horses, and I believe he was logging while he lived in BC, horses being how they got the logs out of the bush. His ability with a horse whip is family legend.

If anyone has a recollection or family tidbit that might point me into the right direction where Old Man Miller is concerned, it'd be appreciated.

MICH
Jack's great granddaughter

Thank you for the 'button scan' - yes, it's definitely the right Edwin Boyde, who emigrated from Isle of Man to Canada around 1906. He was I understand a good athlete and well known footballer in his day. You ask if it is important to me - well, actually I am only the 'researcher' and I was compiling the family tree of a friend - a lady called Joy Dawson. Edwin Boyde was Joy's great-grandfather and I'm sure she would like to have this button as a family souvenir. Perhaps you would like to contact her directly at 'Manxjd@hotmail.co.uk'

Thanks again Judy, I would really appreciate you helping me find his obituary. It seems with him being mentioned in the "Pioneer Memories" book and his wheeling & dealing in property let alone several court cases he may well have earned a decent obituary. Also would like a look at the death certificate - is it possible to purchase a copy?
As for his son Jimmy Boyd(e), since he was supposed to be 'a great athlete' following in his father's footsteps would it be possible to search any sporting/athletic media in British Columbia? Many thanks for your assistance.

You won't be able to verify the marriage as the privacy act is open until 1936 only and births to 1900 in BC. I could look for the obituary. I can look at the original death certificate and see where he is buried and you could check and see if she has died since 1991.

Judy

Many thanks Judy, that's definitely him. Now, any ideas on how I might confirm his marriage to Maud Clockland (after 1943) and then the birth of a son James (Jimmy)? Also, where could I look for his obituary? I'm based in North Yorkshire, England and it's a long way to British Columbia. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your interest in my research - the info I have on Edwin James Boyde was obtained from a book entitled "Chilcotin - Preserving Pioneer Memories" by The Witte Sisters. Extracts are available online and I found it by "Googling" Edwin James Boyde. Here is the extract I found - Extract from
“Chilcotin: Preserving Pioneer Memories”
by The Witte Sisters

Edwin James Boyd(e) came to Canada in 1906 from the Isle of Man, where he had been a champion swimmer & top football player. He worked for Norman Lee, then sent for his wife Maud and moved to Chezacut to work for Copeland before acquiring land for himself. Their first son Edwin Allen was born in Hanceville in1909 and a second son Douglas Ramsay in 1911. A daughter Fanny arrived in 1918. She married Pete Evjen, Eddy married & lived in Nazko country. Doug worked at Chezacut, bought & sold the Spain Lake Ranch, bought & sold another ranch near the 150 Mile and a sawmill near Clinton and worked for wages in that country. But Doug Boyd(e) is best remembered as rider 320 for the C1 Ranch on the Eagle Lake Range where he rode through summer and fall for 20 years.
The Ed Boyds left Chezacut in 1938, selling the cattle to R.C. Cotton and the land to Bill Mulvahill. Bill’s eldest son Roy Mulvahill owns it now. He and his wife Gwen raise cattle & horses along with a very successful big-game guiding business.
Ed Boyd bought the Log Cabin Hotel, later named the Ranch, after moving to Williams Lake. He sold it in 1949. Left a widower in 1943 he married again and had a son Jimmy. Jimmy Boyd was a great athlete following in his father’s footsteps. Ed Boyd died in his eighties in 1963, refusing to go into a retirement home as he didn’t want to associate with “all those old people”!
So this suggests he died in 1963 but it doesn't say where! (Please note the spelling of Boyd(e) and the use of Ed instead of Edwin). Any suggestions?
