He is on the voters list for 1874, and, here is his obit:

Died at Victoria, British Columbia, 2/11, 1883, William Sandford, of Cache Creek, aged 48, native of Nova Scotia. Funeral from St Joseph's Hospital. Mr Sandford will be much missed in the Cache Creek section of the province where he has resided for about 20 years. Deceased was familiarly known by the name of 'Boston' for many years after he commenced farming, stock raising and hotel keeping in and near the Bonaparte rv. He came from CCA to Fraser rv during the excitement of 1858 when quite a young man and was afterward employed on the international boundary line. He subsequently took up one of the finest ranches about Cache Creek, which he has occupied ever since. Mr Sandford's energy and enterprise were proverbial. After making considerable money, during the first 10 or 12 years of his residence on the Bonaparte he undertook to bring water to an extensive flat between Ashcroft and Cache Creek from the Bonaparte rv some 11 or 12 miles upstream. This work necessitated a great deal of fluming, but it was eventually found that the fall was not sufficient and the work was finally abandoned after nearly $15,000 had been expended. Notwithstanding this heavy loss, which would have utterly discouraged many men, the deceased kept bravely at his work and had so far recovered his position that his family is left in comparatively good circumstances. Yale District has lost two of its most valuable and respected residents within 6 months, namely, Preston Bennett and W H Sandford - men that the district and province can ill afford to do without. Funeral, accompanied by a large number of up-country friends. The following neighbours and friends from Yale and Lillooet districts acted as pallbearers: Messrs T Harper, A McEwen, J Schubert, Robert Collins, A Florent, W McDonald. Messrs Mara, Martin, Semlin, Allen, McLeese, Galbraith, MP's, H P Cornwall, F W Foster, J Hamilton, S McCartney and other gentleman from the interior were also in the procession. [Colonist, 1883-02-09*]

Thank you many times over. I did not realize that Wilson Sanford died in Victoria. Perhaps he's buried there. Some of this info is discussed in the book, Bittersweet Oasis by B Beltin on page 47. This is much more. Noticed that the name, Semlin is mentioned. Believe this to be Charles Augustus Semlin, later Premier of B.C. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Glad that helped. I just checked on the city of Victoria site and
he is in Ross Bay Cemetery Victoria.
Sanford William 48 y 1883.02.11 St. Joseph's Hosp., Vict. G 52 W 12

If you check the BC archives you should be able to find the death record and then order or go in and get the death certificate from micro film. The certificate should show cause of death (he died in hospital so must have been ill) and other information. I see Thaddeus Harper of Gang Ranch was a pallbearer as well.

I can look at the death certificate tomorrow but don't think it contained much information in 1883.

I've just checked the BC Archives and the death does not seem to have been registered, lucky that someone found the obituary for you.
