Hi, I'm looking for a great-great-uncle's descendants. Unfortunately, I can find no more records on this website.
Alexander Merrall was born in Onondaga Township, Brant County, Ontario, 28 Apr 1861. He married Mary Jane Glass of Ancaster, born 5 Jul 1859.
They had 3 children in Onondaga - Elmore David b 17 Aug 1885, Alice Emma b 10 Nov 1889, and Elizabeth J born 3 Jan 1893.
Before the 1901 census, this entire family moved to Salmon Arm BC. They had 3 more children there: Alexander McLaughlin Merrall born 11 Apr 1894, Edna born July 1898, and Orton born Sep 1902.
By the 1911 census, Alexander Merrall had moved back to Ontario (to Etobicoke Township) with his 3 youngest children. I suspect he left his wife in BC: Orton Merrall seems to have run away from his father's home in April 1917, gotten as far as Winnipeg's St. James Hotel, and ended up lying about his age to join the Army for WWI. On the form, he gives his next of kin as his mother, and gives her address as "Chilliwack BC?" - with the question mark. He lived through the war, as I have a record of him marrying Ada Ellen Margerum of Toronto (Mt. Dennis?) in 7 Sep 1922, and crossing the US Border in 1929.
I also know Alexander McLaughlin Merrall married Gladys Maud Wilkins, in Toronto, on 9 Aug 1916. He was working as a streetcar conductor at that time. I know of one child they had, which died as an infant.
And Edna Merrall married William Thomas Edward Jefferson b 1895, from Burnhamthorpe Ont, on 10 Oct 1917.
Would anyone know what happened to any of these people and their descendants? I can't find any more proof of their existence.
(Note, everyone's got a different spelling of this surname. Note also, there were also a few "Home Children" from England, named Merrall, living in BC at this time - they're not related to the above family.)
