Would someone assist an easterner with a more exact location of Solomon Creek within Alberta. I have a photo from the late 1800's or early 1900's of a family tenting in the wilderness. On the back is handwritten "At camp on the Solomon Creek, Alta."
I am researching the Cadotte, Darby, Flockhart and Reekie families from Northern Ontario (Massey ON) and this was found in boxes of unidentified photos from our old family home. I am not sure of the connection with Alberta as I don't know of any of those families moving west.
If anyone from the area could help me out it would be much appreciated.

Gail,
The Master Surname Index (not online) (mostly burials in Alberta cemeteries) of the Alberta Genealogical Society lists these names;

Madeline E. REEKIE, 1932 - 1992
buried in the Grande Cache cemetery in that area of Solomon Creek.

Thanks so much for that information. I will try to pursue the Reekie line to see if I can link up the names. I appreciate the information.

Surnames: Rishea
Hi Charlene,
My name is Brenda (my married name is Rishea) of Ontario, and I am married to Marc Rishea, (lest you confuse me with another Brenda Rishea who also lives in Ontario, and whose mother, Mary, just died this year).

I was doing some RISHEA family tree research today when I found your posting for Joseph Frederick Rishea. I have a fairly complete family tree for the Risheas going all the way back to the first ancestor to arrive in Quebec from France in the 1600s. IF you want to fill in your blanks, I'd be happy to help you do that.

The name was originally Richer-dit-Lafleche, but some families are named Lafleche, Fleche, Richer, or Rishea. The name was changed 5 times because you ancestors were illiterate and for every birth, marriage or death, the clerk wrote the name as he heard it sound.

If you wish to see the RISHEA/RICHER-DIT-LAFLECHE family tree, it is listed here: http://richerditlafleche.org/en/accueil.shtml
Then on the left, click on "family tree" and find your ancestor, Joseph Frederick Rishea alphabetically.

Also, did you know that you have other relatives living in Alberta? (If you're still living there). The family names are Deborah and Michael Vesterfelt, and Dale Theresa Ross, the 3 children of Veronica Frances Rishea. We used to be in touch but Veronica may have passed away by now. She had moved into a retirement home and we lost touch years ago.

I use Family Tree Maker 2008 software, so if you wanted to merge files, it may be possible if you use this program as well.

Well, I hope to hear from you soon.
Brenda

Brenda, thanks so much for the information. Just before Christmas, I moved my computer room into a larger spot so I would have more room to spread my information around. In the New Year I will have to figure out where i put the Solomon Creek information. However I think the family connection comes from Cadotte, Reekie, Flockhart or Darby.

Will get back to you when I find my information.

Thanks
Gail Darby

I was also looking for information on the Rishea family and came upon your post. My father and mother were very good friends of Amie and Edith Rishea of Peterborough Ontario. Their granddaughter was Veronica. I recently reconnected with her brother here in town. Edward but known as TED. He did tell me that Veronica had passed on.

I have looked up the website that you suggested.
If my memory is correct. Amiee's father and his brothers came to Peterborough as Lumberjacks and Labourers while the Peterborough Lift Locks were being built. When the work was completed some stayed and some moved up north.
Amiee worked at Canadian General Electric and then became a butcher at Canada Packers and worked there until he died in 1957.

Brenda,

Hello,

My grandfather was Max Wax and we know very little about him and his family. We believe he was one of 12 children. He was born in Russia/Romania/Ukraine.Would you be willing to compare trees?
