Re: Need death dates, obituary, or cemetery listing for Ethel Coleman and Ambery James Coleman

I am so glad to read your reply. Thank you very much. I remember meeting Aunt Laura when I was a young girl. I, also, had the chance to meet Uncle Ben. I corresponded with Aunt Esther but never met her in person. I say Aunt and Uncle but it is actually Great Aunt and Uncle. John Wesley was my Grandfather. When I got seriously interested in family history, my chance of getting answers from them was gone. I wish I knew more about them.
I have read many old newspapers and such. I have most of the birth and death dates now. Some have different dates, depending on what "proof" you are looking at. I only have a year for Aunt Esther, 1983. I sure would like the month and day.
I did find an article for the death of Ambery James in 'The Stavely Standard', Thursday, October 13, 1910. It states: "On Friday last, little Jimmy Coleman, the 10-year-old son of Mr. Coleman, a former resident of Stavely, but now living on his homestead some 10 miles northwest of the village, died from the effects of typhoid fever, after battleing with the disease for about three weeks. The deceased was buried on Sunday in the Stavely cemetery, by Rev. G.R. Backus. We understand that there are two little girls in the same family are down with the same fever, but it is hoped that they will soon be restored to health. Another older daughter is all crippled up with lumbago. Truly a much afflicated family." The death date would have been October 7, 1910, and buried on the 9th.
I never found a mention of Ethel's death. So, from your recollection you think they died on the same day and were buried on the same day? I just have that she died October 1910.
You have enlightened me so much. I thank you again for sharing that story. I remember that Aunt Laura loved her little girl. My Mom had a picture of her sitting on a rocking horse? Now I don't remember what it was, but I remember she was a cute little girl. That picture has to be around here somewhere.
Thanks again!

Laura Coleman Irwin was my grandmother. She told me the story of how Ethel and Jim died in 1910. Many in the family came down with typhoid that year and then scarlet fever. The typhoid outbreak started in the fall at the road construction camp. My grandmother was in the room when her brother and sister died, sick with scarlet fever, and remembered being carried by her father Ambery to their funerals. She and her sister Lottie had to have their hair cut off because it was so matted from their being sick for so long. Della canned peaches while at camp that fall. When Ben returned home that spring from working away from home, he opened some peaches and he became sick with typhoid and was taken to the hospital in Nanton. But he survived and lived to be very old and tell many stories!

Hello, It's been many years since you posted this so I'm not sure if you're still looking, but D. Leslie Loree was my great grandfather and his son George Loree was my grandfather. There were a few books done up about the area. One was called Mosquito Creek Roundup Nanton-Parkland. I have a copy of this at home.

My Great Aunt Jane Loree (Wilson) did a full history of the Wilsons as well. My grandmother Dorcas Loree (Wilson) was married to George Loree, D. Leslie Loree's son. Jane was married to George Loree's cousin, Gerald Loree.

I also have some family in Alberta that knows a lot more about this than I, so please be in touch if you want any further information on the George Loree branch of the family.

Cheers, Lesley

It can be inter-library loaned to other libraries in Alberta.

If you don't get any results from the Nordegg library (I'm not sure if they have newspapers on microfilm there) feel free to contact the Alberta Genealogical Society Research team http://abgensoc.ca/research.html
and ask for Shannon to assist you with this.
Good luck!

Hi! great to hear from you! Mostly I have info on the Herseys. I going to try and attach a link here(Hey! it worked!), but if you haven't seen the book "The Butte Stands Guard" about Stavely, it has lots of info. The Aberta Heritage organization has it on line. CA Hersey & family are listed & possibly more on the Wilsons, but I didn't have any more info than the name George Wilson so it made it hard for me to find any thing else.

If you look at the my trees Hersey Ancestry(the 3rd one, I believe. It's the most complete), you can see what info I have. Unfortunately I don't have any more on Madge than her b day & that she was adopted(& now I can change Kelly to a girl! I stood a 50/50 chance on guessing that one!). I'm pretty certain my trees are open, but I'll try and remember how to send you the "join" info, so you can go straight to them. If you'd like to do the same it would be appreciated.

Ruth

Thank you for the reply,

I have most of the family information locally in B.C. except for Roderick Murray Sweet's daughter Catherine.
The one mentioned for New Westminster would be too old as George and eunice did not marry until Sept 1911. My father is Roderick Charles and he was born 1918, there would have been a 28 year spread. I believe that I checked this years ago but will research it further.

Thanks

Rick.

Back in 1999 you asked for information re: Roderick Sweet. I just stumbled on your post. George Sweet born in NS in 1848 and Eunice Workman had a son named Roderick who migrated from NS to AB in the early 1900's and lived for awhile in McLeod AB. While there he had a son Roderick and the family moved to New Westminister BC around 1920. There was Clyde, Roderick, Orville, Donald and a daughter Catherine

Brunton, who preached the funeral sermon, delivered a most suitable niessage from Isaiah 64 Charles Robson, who has been honored in death by a community, born at Greenwich, England, and was a moulder by trade. He came to Canada in the year 1869 and took up his residence in Toronto. In February 1871, he married at Bracebridge, Ontario to Miss Margaret Slater. Following the marriage Mr. and Mrs Robson resided in the Chatham district in Ontario, until coming west to locate in the Vulcan district in 1905. Here residence has continued on the homestead at the time selected, and deceased and family have participated in the various activities and developments of the community, sharing the vissicutudes of the early settlers and the later resident in such manner as to command esteem of neighbors and citizens. Mr. Robson has been a life-long Conservative in politics, and with an active interest and the distinction of age as an elector exercised his francise in connection with the last Dominion election. One of the most recent events in which he exercised a particular activity was when he celebrated of the sixtieth anniversary of his marriage, when with his life companion there were assembled their sons and daughters, and their sons and daughters of these even to the fourth generation. With the wife and mother, who is now a widow, and 81 years of age there are now of the family who survive five sons, George of Red Deer; James of Vulcan; Fred of High River; Charles of Calgary; and William of Vulcan; and two daughters. Hattie (Mrs. Pepper) and Margaret (Mrs G. McPherson) both of Vulcan. There are 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Best of luck

Thelma

Ben, you're right - my sister is Gill and my Dad was Ted. My family tree should be on public display within Ancestry - look for johncrane1611. My direct e-mail address is jecrane@tiscali.co.uk. I'd really like to access the information which you've accumulated. There are some details about Caroline, Charles and Francis in the 1891 and 1901 census. Can I get access to your family tree? I agree Celeste is a mystery. Do you know why the surname changed from Casoli to Denney. My mum didn't even know about this until the 1970's!
Regards
John

Hello John, I think we are! If we're correct you have a sister called Gillian and your dad was Ted? I thought I had traced your mum only a month ago but drew a blank, Isabella's side was the only part of the family left to try and get in contact with, am now in contact with Charlie's and Frank's (your mum's brothers) families too. I have made some more progress, have traced part of the family back to Australia (Caroline Denney/Casoli), but I am still struggling with Celeste Casoli. Very intruiging as he seems to have come from nowhere, then died very young, in Stretham High Street of all places. Have found Charles Casoli's First World War pension details (he was a reservist), and he seems to have had a brother called Francis.denney_ben at hotmail dot com!

Hi, Ben, I realise that you posted this several years ago but I have only recently started researching my family tree. My mother (Isabella Maud Casoli or Denney born in 1915) was the daughter of Charles Casoli (or Denney) and Isabella Maud Joyce. Her grandfather was Lester or Celeste Casoli and the grandmother was Caroline. I can't get beyond this. Did you make any further progress? We must be related.

John Crane

This is a search for owner of music store in the
area during the mid 60s.
I believe a relative owned this business and may
have run it out of their home.
Her name, if memory serves me was either Francene,
or Angeline. I think that she was noted as a accomplished musician herself.

She would have been born about 1910-1920 time period.
A son Roderick died sometime in the 80's.
I know she was related to our family
as we visited her during this period.
Also at this time their was a beauty shop on the
main street that I believe was owned by her
daughter Joanne who was married with children.
Married name I believe was Mac McDonald??
She may have been a McRae or McDonald and I suspect
had ancesotors in the Glengarry area.
I know this is limited in information but hope some
of the details will be familiar to someone who might
help me.
Annie

Do you know the name of the Funeral Home.?
The Funeral Home - may have also taken information for an obituary if one was to be published. If they took the information - they will have the information in their files for Edward McKEE.
Cheers & Good Luck, Stella
