Hello,

I have in my possession, an old family photo of the Deforest Family, it was taken in a parlour setting with a father and a mother and 3 children the girl looks to be about 12 and the 2 boys look to be one about 16 and the other about 20yrs. the father figure sports a moustache and beard. This family went to Alberta from Nova Scotia, I presume Colchester County as they were friends to my great grandparents and that is where they lived. It was taken on Dec the 28th 1908. It reads on the back.
We all wish you a Happy Prosperous New Year. If you can help please contact me at : jennill@cogeco.ca

Thank you

There's a note in Under Eight Flags: Vol. 2 (on "ourroots") pg. 1376 that talks about grandparents (with 2 sons and 2 daughters) coming to the Claresholm in 1806 from the Maritimes by Cecelia Hanna (deforest). She mentions her sister Gwnedolyn (DeForest) Shultz who lived on Altamont Farm with her husband Belmore Shultz.
In 1908, the grandparents took up homesteading in the Porcupine Hills.
Gwen & Cecelia's mother was Lila Irene deForest who married Aubrey Watson, a widowerer. Orphaned at an early age, Gwen & Cecelia, and a brother Ron went live with uncle Harold deForest and his wife Nina. They had 2 older sisters who didn't.

If you page through the book you can find more info,
such as Belmore & Gwen's son Donald Belmore Schultz who was b. Dec 27, 1954 (who is possibly still alive) and Belle Marie, b. June 19, 1949.
Gwen passed away in 1975, Belle Marie moved to Australia but eventually ended up in Vancouver.

Maybe this will help locate this family.
Good luck (it's a good thing you're doing).
Bette

I believe this picture is of my husbands family. James F deForest and Adeline Huestis deForest are the parents. The 3 children should be Lamert (the oldest) Harold and the girl Anah. Lamert is my husbands grandfather.

Hi beth!

Im not related to the shultz family but if i'm not mistaken, i met them in the
philippines in the early eighty's. I remember the name B. Shultz and his daughter B. M. Shultz.
Our neighbor in P.I. the De Guzman family are quite close to them. I wonder how they're all doing its been over 33 years now.
