I've always been told that the name originates from Prussia but like you with your Poland link I have found no proof of this. Its quite possible that it did in fact originate from France as taken from Cecil Powell's autobiography it says:-
I was born at Tonbridge in Kent, in the South of England, on the 5th December 1903. My father, Frank Powell, came of a family which had lived in the neighbourhood for some generations and my grandfather, Peter Powell, had established a gunsmith's business in the town which my father inherited. My mother, Elizabeth Caroline, née Bisacre, was the daughter of a schoolmaster, a Gloucestershire man of Huguenot descent, who had migrated from Wotton-under Edge to the small town of Southborough, two miles from Tonbridge, where he had set up a private school. I was the elder child of our family, my only sister, Phyllis, being three years the younger.

This would indicate that he must have known of some connection presumably prior to John who was born in 1778 in Gloucestershire.

Regards

Andy Bisacre

Hello!
I have been trying for a number of years to find three or maybe four WOLVERTON family members in Strathmore, Alberta and was told they had died there ---yet one family member stated that some had moved into Little Fort and for years took that to mean a community in Alberta. Is there a list of cemeteries that you might know of in either of the areas -Strathmore or Little Fort.
Thanks,
Paul Wright

Sometimes the enumerator may have made an error. Transcription of the surname may be incorrect - depending on the clarity of the original.

Have you searched: National Archive of Canada - Western Land Grants?
Have you searched Google re Rockyford Alberta - it will show the location.

Alberta Place names:
Rockyford 22-26-23-w4 Wheatland Village

Cheers, Stella
James and Christina Tait came to Langley, B.C. in 1901. They farmed there along with their son James until their deaths - Christina in 1931 and James in 1933. They are both buried in the old Murrayville Cemetary in Langley. James stayed on at the farm until his death in 1950. As to James and Christina's daughters there was Jeannie Taylor, Alison Harding and my grandmother Elizabeth Galland.

HI,
My name is Tim Ingeberg. My great grandfather was Thorleif(Thor) Ingeberg. I know that the family had migrated to canada in the early 1900's and my grandfather Thomas Ingeberg and my father Thomas Ingeberg originally live in calgary and my father later moved to edmonton and settled in the greater vancouver area in BC. I have seen my great grandfather's death certificate but it was so long ago i could not tell you where that is now. I'm not sure if this helps or is even if we are related. However I'm always into finding my roots, history plays the biggest part in who we are today.

There are 39 BRASS surnames listed in Alberta.
Searching in B.C. there is only a Frank BRASS listed.
Searching Nationwide - finds only 4. the two Frank above - as well 2 F.BRASS in the Province of Ontario
Cheers & Good Luck, Stella

I am looking for Christina and James Tait and have just come across your post. I was wondering if you have made any progress as they seemed to have left Rosebud after 1901. The only info I can find on them is in a book called The Rosebud Trail - a photo of Lizzie Tait holding baby Wishart and mention of shepherd Tait and porridge!

Thank you so much. I didn't hold much hope of a reply as your post is dated 2001! You have certainly provided all the information I need to finish my research of Christina. Christina was the sister of my gt gt grandfather Alexander Robertson. If you need information on Christina's family I have a tree on Ancestry.com called the Robertson/Irvine tree.
Again, thank you very much for your time.

Thanks Peter,

I do have his deathdate and other details, but was looking for him in the 1911 census but could not find him there. If you find him in the census, I would appreciate any information you can give me on it.
Thanks.
