Surnames: Danyluk / Poherliak / Hunka
Wow!! ... how did you manage to get names and details from the Old Country?? My maiden name is Danyluk. My Baba (Grandmother) married Nicholas Danyluk. Her name prior to marriage was Mary Poherliak. Her father was Kozma Poherliak. Her uncle was Jakiw Poherliak. Her mother's maiden name prior to marriage was Anne Kondrovich -- she died in the Old Country, in Rebnoe, which was in the Oblast of Galicia at the time (under the Asto-Hungarian Rule), a village along the Cheremosh River. They were Hutsuls/Mountain People. Anne's parents lived in Kobaky, a village near Rebnoe ... these villages are North of Kuty. Kozma's wife Anne was his second wife. When he arrived in Dejarlais, Alberta (not far from Willingdon), with his brothers Jakiw (Jacob) and Bill ... Kozma remarried for a third time to Paraska (Pearl) Hunka. Kozma and his brothers were carpenters. They owned lands in the Dejarlais area (which was later sold to two separate families: Shapka & Drapaka). They built the Church in Dejarlais (1917). I have managed to find their "Naturalization" records... but still do not know when they arrived in Canada. Kozma's only surviving child from his 2nd wife in the Ukraine, was Mary Poherliak, who later married Nicholas Danyluk, whom is from the region of Bukovina. Nicholas came to Canada with his brother Michael and his Father ... I do not know his father's first name ... his father died in a fire on a Train rail car in the early 1900's in Saskatchewan...thus leaving his 2 young sons orphaned. Nicholas & Michael also had a sister Dora, who was married and had a daughter, but stayed in the Old Country. I do not know her married name. I do not know if her and her family managed to survive WWII and it's continuous aftermath. I do Not know Kozma's father's first name. I do know that Kozma's father's 1st wife died in the Old Country; and he remarried; thus Kozma's two 1/2 sisters, Vasalena and Paraska (Pearl) AND his 1/2 brother, Alexander also came to Canada. Their last name of course being Poherliak/Pohryliak (spelling differed here and there). Kozma's sister Vasalena arranged the marriage of Mary (her niece) to Nicholas Danyluk. Nicholas raised his family in Beverly, Edmonton, Alberta. He had 7 children with Mary....

Those are my great great great grandparents. An aunt of mine has some research on the geneological line. I am a decendant of their son Michaelo Gordey. There is other research available on his brother Iwan Gordeys line.

My Mom, Catherine, is the daughter of Elena (Helen) and Wladimir Ostapowich, not Stanley Ostapowich. Her grandmother was Maria Hunchak, married to Alexander. They lived in Andrew area.
