Surnames: BARNES & RELF
Hi
I'm looking for Barnes and Relf families in Thorhild.

Parents:
John Alexander Barnes and Ruth Shaw Barnes emigrated in the early 1900's. Had three children Caroline Ethel Alberta, John Victor and David Wilkinson Barnes. All three married and had families of their own. Caroline married a Norman Relf and they had 8 children.

If you know of these families I would love to hear from you. I am, through a cousin, in New Zealand, already in contact with Allan Relf one of Caroline's Grandson's and have discovered that David Wilkinson Barnes is alive and well and still living in the Edmonton area.

Kindest Regards

Sandra

The Master Surname Index (not online) (mostly burials in Alberta cemeteries) of the Alberta Genealogical Society lists these names;

John Alexander BARNES, 1880 - 26 Jan 1954
Ruth BARNES, 1879 - 17 Dec 1963
both in plot #G,164,1 of the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Edmonton.

Dave W. BARNES, 1924 - no date
Vera BARNS, 1928 - no date
both names on one grave marker plot G.292a of the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Edmonton. As recorded by AGS members about 2 years ago.

Norman C. RELF, 1912 - 1996
Caroline E. RELF, 1913 - 1994
both names on the same grave marker at plot E01,228d in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Edmonton

Note; I can not find a phone number for Davie (David) & Vera Barnes, they may be in a Seniors Home.

You can order death papers, however when ordering this you are given 2 options - the Certificate,
or a "Certified Photographic Print of the Registration of Death" which usually gives more information than that fancy Certificate.

Many Thanks Peter,

David is a most definately alive and, a couple of weeks ago anyway, well. He may be in his 80's but even has a fax number, though on second thoughts, that could be the Senior Homes number.

I will add all this to my tree.

Again Many Thanks

Sandra

I know Dave Barnes (wife Vera, who just passed on last summer) as a neighbor in Thorhild. Dave presently lives in Westlock Alberta. I believe his daughters are on the internet - Linda, Bonnie and Melony. They had a son who passed on a good number of years ago. Dave is wonderful, good person. I you need more help let me know.

Hello Gail
Davie, his brother Victor and Sister Carol where my Mum's cousins. Their Mother Ruth was married to my Grandfathers brother John Alexander Barnes. Davies Sister Carol was married to Norman Relf.
My cousin June Henderson flew to Edmonton from Dunedin in New Zealand for the Relf/Barnes family reunion a couple of years ago. She met both Vera and Davie, together with the other members of the family. She was given a wonderful reception and had a great time. Would love to go myself but not able to nowadays as we are now retired so living in reduced circumstances.
Please remember me to Davie and mention my Mum Enid and Father Derek Double from Chipping in Lancashire.

Best Wishes
Sandra

Hi Sandra,

Just came across this message board. Vera Barnes (nee O'Hagan) is my 2nd cousin and would be happy if we shared any information. My mother Mary was from Co Antrim.

I live in NZ but keep in touch with my cousins in Co Antrim quite regularly. Some have also come out to visit. There are also some of the O'Hagans living just south of Auckland with whom I am also in contact.

Regards

John
