Looking for info on Orphanage that existed in Redwater

Approx 1918 my grandmother along with her siblings were placed in an orphanage in Redwater when their mother passed away. The oldest was 10 years and the youngest still a baby. The children eventually went back to live with their father who farmed near Egremont. I would like to know more about it, see if there are records of their time there.

Does anyone know about this place or how to go about finding any records?

Thanks

Hi, Perhaps posting the name of the family - in Capital Letters ont he subject line - might be helpful.
There may be some people who may have memories or family connected - and could answer your quest.

The Provincial Archive in Edmonton may be able to assit - they may have some records et

Thanks for your replies. I have since found it the orphanage was in Radway (I got the towns mixed up in my mind). We drove past the building a few weeks ago when we were up in the area visiting gravesites.

I will try the provincial archives for sure. Do you know if Radway has a museum?

I also found it was a Catholic orphanage so I will see what I can do about contacting the catholic church as well.

Thank you

Sandra

No, there is no Museum in Radway. (there is almost nothing left in Radway) There are Museums in Thorhild and Redwater that may be helpful. Call ahead if you are coming out, usually they are open by appointment during most of the year. Redwater is open during the summer. Next door to the Redwater Museum is the Library, you might inquire about what they have in their local history section.

Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Fort Saskatchewan is the parish that would cover the Radway area, otherwise, contact the Edmonton Doicese.
