I have some pictures of the old Retlaw General Store and Cafe, as well as the Retlaw Grain Elevators that were taken many years ago. I tryed to send them to Doris Higgens via email, but they were rejected, saying "No longer in Service". Who can I send them to?, please advise an email adress. Thanks

I am another Gourley,Brother of Delbert Vernon that you
have mentioned, son also of Edward Sidney Gourley and Amy Quinton.None of these mentioned ever resided in Taber, But rather in Picture Butte and Raymond. However none of the Gourley family at this time reside in Raymond or Picture Butte
but are scattered as the wind. There are only 3 of the 9 original children of Edward and Amy still surviving and I am the youngest. Gourley

Hi, Sorry I can't be of any help - but a thought.
The Cemetery is still in operation [from messages found doing a Google Search].
There should be a Cemetery Office - or someone who works with the Cemetery. They will know the layout of the Cemetery - what graves are still available for burial - they should also have information re burials on site - and the names of the persons buried there .
Cheers, Stella

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you; the Kambeitz "section" of the Assumption Cemetery in Grassy Lake doesn't have headstones... All the Kambeitzes have white crosses instead; not sure who is who, to be honest.

I can get you some photos in the future, if you'd like. I also have a map I got from the County of 40 Mile which maintains the cemetery that might be helpful.

This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but I hope that the details might ring a bell with someone.

My husband's uncle was George Henry Hook, born in London England in 1886.
His parents were James Hook and Kate Hughes.

In 1914, George and his wife Clara were living at Grassy Lake, near Taber.

On 23 Feb 1914 Clara gave birth to twin girls. The babies were named Clara and Matilda.
Clara was very ill after the birth and on 25 Feb 1914 she died.
On 4 Mar 1914 baby Clara died.

I am trying to discover what happened to George and to baby Matilda.
I would love to know that Matilda grew up to have children of her own, against all the odds.

I am in UK and I cannot find any re-marriage for George or a marriage for Matilda. I cannot even find a death for either of them, so I assume they both remained in Canada.

Are there any Canadian records on-line that I can search?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi, I have some information that may or may not be of some use to you. I too am researching a family tree. My father and grandfather lived in Retlaw. My grandfather came over form the Ukraine in ~ 1910 with one sister and one brother (names unknown) and they were married and they had two sons (names Unknown) and the people they married were farmers in the area. (names Unkown). My grandfathers name was Carl Susinski and my fathers name is Greg Susinski and they both worked for the railroad in Retlaw. There is a book out there that I have seen from the Lomond area that has some historical information on the Retlaw area. I would suggest contacting the Lomond town office and perhaps you can get a copy as it contained the names and informaiton on many people from the area. Happy hunting!!

Perhaps can be followed up.

Perhaps posting to the Canada GenWeb Message Board. May be helpful -

Have you searched Online White Pages directory 411.ca
for the family ?
Cheers, Stella
Hi,
I've noted the date on your message is 2002, so I hope you are still researching the family of Edwin Lewis Shaw. I also have found this person in my Shaw family tree. I'd love to hear from you to see if they are one in the same.
Thank you,
Nadine
pompacmom3@hotmail.com

oops sorry- I must has mislead you. I'm not related to any Cooks that I know of! But like you, I wondered if J Ernie Cook was the same as Robert J Ernest Cook, and because he'd moved from Manitoulin to Taber I figure there must be a connection somewhere too. And yes, I gave you all the info I had. You can find it again by searching rootsweb for "earnest cook" I believe.
Good luck,
Bette
