George Henry Hook

This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but I hope that the details might ring a bell with someone.

My husband's uncle was George Henry Hook, born in London England in 1886.
His parents were James Hook and Kate Hughes.

In 1914, George and his wife Clara were living at Grassy Lake, near Taber.

On 23 Feb 1914 Clara gave birth to twin girls. The babies were named Clara and Matilda.
Clara was very ill after the birth and on 25 Feb 1914 she died.
On 4 Mar 1914 baby Clara died.

I am trying to discover what happened to George and to baby Matilda.
I would love to know that Matilda grew up to have children of her own, against all the odds.

I am in UK and I cannot find any re-marriage for George or a marriage for Matilda. I cannot even find a death for either of them, so I assume they both remained in Canada.

Are there any Canadian records on-line that I can search?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Thank you for that information Peter.

It certainly looks like that is my George Henry Hook. (The birth date fits)

George really had a sad life. Watching his first wife and baby daughter die and then watching his baby son die.

I will be getting in touch with the sites you gave me. Thanks again

In the Brooks local history book, there is mention of George Hook as “the Canadian Western National Gas man…When the gas got low at night, Mr. Hook would have to get up in the night and go and thaw out a gas line…”
