My GG Grandfather NATHANIEL SCHINCKE and his brother SAMUEL SCHINCKE moved to Fort Saskatchewan and homesteaded in 1898.
NATHANIEL SCHINCKE was born in Exeter, Ontario - Sept.5, 1857. SAMUEL SCHINCKE was born in Exeter, Ontario - Dec.10,1860.
Prior to their move to Fort Saskatchewan they were living in West Point, Cuming Co., Nebraska. Their parents JOHN and CHARLOTTE SCHINKE may have moved with them to Fort Saskatchewan. Any info provided on the SCHINCKE/SCHINKE name would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Peter,
Thank you for your reply. I am eager to see the info on the 13 listings for Schinke or Schincke. I am sure they would all be a relation in one way or another. This is not a common name at all. Since the info is not online, can you advise me how I can look at this info or get a copy?

Andy Schincke was my g grandfather. Samuel Schincke was my gg grandfathers brother. I have a copy of page 455 from the book "Hills of Hope." Would this be the same book you have?
I am hoping you have someting I don't have..

Any little bit of info you can provide is greatly appreciated. This family search has been a difficult one.

Regards,
Cheryl

The finding aids and indexes (not online) of the Alberta Genealogical Society lists 13 names, some are from the 1901 Alberta Census, other burials in cemeteries and names apperaing Local History Books.

But there dosn't appear to reference to a Charlotte Schicke.

I have the book with a story on Andy Schinke and another story on Sam Schinke.

Fredricka Schincke [daughter of John & Charlotte] married Andrew Heitzman. Andrew & Fredricka & their 2 eldest children moved to Nebraska from Ontario in 1868. Their daughter, Charlotte Heitzman Thomas, was my maternal grandmother. My grandmother was born near West Point Nebraska & then moved [1898] with her parents & 3 siblings to a farm close to El Reno, OK. I am looking for information on the Schinckes in Canada & Germany. It seems there are quite a few of us looking for Schincke data.

This is regarding Charlotte Schinke.I had a huge problem finding where she was buried.(Anyhow here is what I finally found out about her: She was buried in IOOF Pioneer Cemetery which is on the Eugene, OR. campus! I still do not know how she came to Oregon or who she stayed with. Her name on the tombstone is SCHINEKE. (That E should have been a C.)

Charlotte Litke or Luedke was born 8/23/1823 in Prussia - the town was Zachow, now in Poland - polish spelling now is Czachowo. It was SE of Berlin. Charlotte's death was 11.25.1904. Her obit - Schincke - at her residence in this city, corner of 14th and Oak Stson Friday at 5 a.m. of paralysis. Mrs. Charlote Schincke in the 82nd year of her age. Funeral services at house at 2 pm by Dr. BF Rowland.

She and her husband had a ton of children (as usual back then) but about half died before adult hood due to consumption or trouble with delivery babies. They lived in West Point Nebraska. Late in life, Charlotte and John went to be with their children in Oregon. John born 8/5/25 and died 7.11.1890. He was buried in Masonic Cemetery, Olympia, Thurston, WA.

Charlotte Litke/Leudke b.Aug 08, 1823 Zachow, Prussia/Prussen (Czachowo, poland). d. Nov 25, 1904, Eugene Oregon. She was married to John Schincke b.Aug 05, 1825, Prussen. d.July 11, 1890 Olympia, Washington (buried in Masonic cemetary- Thurston). They emmigrated to Canada 1845-50. They had 12 kids-William, Lydia, John, herman, Elizabeth, Nathaniel, Samuel, Anna, Frank, Mary & Albert. Check familysearch.com. If you have any info on ancestors of John & Charlotte, I would appreciate having it. The names seem to change spelling over the years so it's hard to figure out the family lines.

I checked on the Schinke marriages in Cuming County when I was in Lincoln, Nebraska the last time, and found the following:

Hermin Schinke married Angelina Miles on 23 Feb 1876. Hermin was born in Canada on 20 Oct 1854, the son of John Schinke and Charlote Silke. Angelina was born in Pennsylvania on 17 Sep 1857, the daughter of Samuel MIles and Elizabeth Leanik or Seanik.

Nathaniel Schinke married Mary Reeson on 7 Nov 1878. Nathaniel was born in Canada on 5 Sep 1857, son of John Schinke and Charlotte Silke. Mary was born in Will County, IL 11 Aug 1853 daughter of Samuel Reeson and Harriet Maddock.

Charles Kolterman married Elizabeth Schinke on 4 Jan 1876. Charles was born in Prussia on 25 Apr 1854, son of Wm. Kolterman and Wilhelmina Kryger. Elizabeth was born in Canada 5 Feb 1856, daughter of John Schinke and Charlottel Sutke (the u has an umlaut above it).

There are two families in Cuming County, both with the husband's last name Grunke/Grinke and the wife, Schinke/Schunke. One group coming from Wisconsin and the other from Canada - both about the same time. I'm convinced they are connected, perhaps the husbands are brothers or cousins and the wives, the same. Families from the same areas of Germany were so intermarried, that the 'coincidence' of two so similar named families arriving from two different areas to the same small town in Nebraska at the same time must be connected, though it may take a trip to Germany to sort it all out.

My gr gr granddad was Nathanial[Dan] Schincke. My gen info came from a collaboration of data collected by various family members. One thing that is consistently clear is that John Schincke was married to Charlotte Litke [sometimes spelled Leudke]. Names were often misspelt on records and handwriting is often illegible; but there was consistency in Litke...not Silke....never heard of Silke before.
They had 15 children. The eldest, Reka, was born in Prussia, the next 10 were born in Canada, the 4 youngest were born in Nebraska.
John Schincke is buried in Olympia, Washington and Charlotte in Eugene, Oregon. Both they, and some of their children were fairly nomadic roaming over a great part of the USA & Canada....and were an important part of pioneering in and around Edmonton, Alberta.
Considering how this family loved to wander, it's not surprising to hear about the 2 Grunke/Shincke couples coming to Cuming county at the same time from 2 different directions. Cuming county appears to be a pivitol location for the Schinkes.
Are these families part of your tree? If you would like more info I would be happy to share what I have. Let me know:)
