I was quite surprised and happy to find information on James Bell and Flora Whitford on Mytree.com.
James Bell was a merchant (fur trader) from St. Paul Alberta. He was my paternal great grandfather. I know he changed his name to Bell in the early 20th century. I have begun the task of completing our family tree and am interested in corresponding with anyone that may have any information in regards to the Bell and/or Whitford family in St. Paul.

I really don’t know enough about my great grandfather, but am starting to search for more information. I believe he married or lived with a Flora Whitford from the St. Paul Alberta area. They had two children Billy and Vera.


I also am interested in discovering a land sale transfer (Yrs 1910 -1925 in St. Paul, AB) agreement between my great grandfather and the vendor. This may give my family a clue, I am hoping, as to his real name before he changed it to James Bell. My family is investigating when or why he changed his name to James Bell. It’s a mystery to me that hopefully one day will be solved.
