My Grandad Ronald Goulet

I would love to gather any information about my Grandad, Ronald Goulet. He married my English Grandma (Joan) and lived in Spirit River with their two sons Ronald and Kenneth Norman (my Father).

I know my Grandad died when my Dad was a young lad (My Dad was born in 11th May 1946), and the cause of death may ring bells with some of the older locals?!

Apparantly he fell asleep (unnoticed) on a dumper truck full of soil, which unfortunately, was tipped and my Grandad was consequently suffocated. My Grandma then moved back to England and re-married.

I would be very grateful if anyone could give me any information at all... or point me in the right direction.

Thank you.

Emma Goulet (Cheltenham, England)

The Master Surname Index (not online) (mostly burials in Alberta cemeteries) of the Alberta Genealogical Society lists these names;

Ronald Carl GOULET, 1921 - interred 24 Sep 1949
and is buried in the St Joseph RC Cemetery at Spirit River.

There is a story about Ronald & Joan GOULET in the Local History Book "Chepi Sepe, Spirit River" printed in 1989.

I have seen this book in the AGS Library in Edmonton, ask them about it.

Emma,
I may be able to help you!
Do you know if your Grandad's father's name was Dennis(Deni) born 1889? Dennis was a barber in Spirit River, and his brother Joseph was my great Grandfather. The reason I believe this is the correct family, is in a book "She Came From Spirit River" written by Gabrielle Goulet Will (daughter of Frank Goulet)-(Dennis Goulet's brother also) she wrote, Dennis Goulet married Mary Ange La March, they had a son Ronald. It says Ronald served in the second World War in the Canadian Army. Married an English girl and had two sons. She returned to England after Ronald was killed in an accident.
If this is the correct family we would be 3rd cousins!
Would love to hear from you!

Hello , I was just surfing around Sprit River sites and noticed your post. I remember when your Grandad was killed, I was just a young boy , I do not recall the year. We lived in the High School Dormitory in town. A grain field backed on the property and this is where the accident occured. In those days many long hours were put in running the harvesting equipment while the weather cooperated. Ron went to sleep in the empty box of a grain hauling truck.(not soil). When the combine harvester pulled up beside the truck to unload, George Inkin, the operator , never noticed that Ron was in the box and unloaded the grain on top of him.I will never forget this accident as it was such a horrendous occurance to my young mind at the time.
Regards, Dave

Hi
I was surfing and saw your post. My grandfather was George Inkin. If you have any questions I am sure my mom could answer them. She moved from Spirit River when she was 18.
