Am looking for people researching relatives from Cavendish Alberta Area (no longer on the map) Cavendish, formerly called Pancras, is approximately 30 miles west of Empress Alberta. My father was born and raised on a farm at Cavendish. Thanks for any help!!

Hi. I know you sent this message last year but I'd like to pick your brain about Cavendish. I'm an amateur photographer and was traveling down the highway on my motorbike and saw the Cavendish cemetery. I pulled in and snapped some photos. Do you know who Esther A. Edgington was? And did you find out any information about anyone from the area?

Hi Liz
My grandfather emigrated to Cavendish from Nebraska in 1911. Their home burnt down about twelve years later and the Red Cross relocated them to Luceland, Sask. I was there a few years ago and felt so sorry for them and could only imagine how hard the life was for them. My mother was right when she said there was sagebrush, cacti and rattlesnakes, no water and no crops.
I am off there the end of the week with two of my children so they can see where the family started their Canadian adventure and hope they have more appreciation for their ancestors hard work in settling the West.
We will be taking some photos if you are interested in seeing them will send them to you.
Lynda

Hi - my father's family came west from Ontario and homesteaded south of Cavendish (Pancras) in 1917. Were there 6 years and never had one decent crop. They returned to Ontario, broke and defeated.
I now live south of Medicine Hat, south of Manyberries. Today my son and I visited what's left of Cavendish - mainly a cemetery. I would love to know more about this pioneer town which once was quite a thriving community. My father's name was Charlie Hisey - his father, Levi Hisey.

My mother and her family were from Cavendish. Name- Hamilton. This was a photo of their buildings a half mile east of the pipeline compressor station. Only one of these buildings remains today.
