I've come into possession of a lot of old photos from the Willingdon/Shandro/Desjarlais area. I can make out a few family members from these pictures, but many are unknown (friends/neighbors?). I'd love to hear from anyone who can put some names to these faces.

Hi Annamari,
Just a thought. Perhaps posting this message - to the General Message Board for Alberta - may be helpful. That list covers all Alberta - since people do move about - perhaps a good choice.
Also posting to the Canada GenWeb message board - may also prove of some help.
Cheers, Stella

Surnames: Desjarlais, De Gerlaise
Hi I would be interested in viewing the photos on line or email if possible. My grandmother Eva Desjarlais is 91 yrs old and she maybe able to identify. My email is kldesj@live.com I am also a descendant of the Baptiste "Neeshicappo" Desjarlais... Ferdinand de Gerlaise
my Grandfather is Joseph Luke Desjarlais his father is Emmanuel Minwell Desjarlais - his father is Baptiste "Nechicappo" Desjarlais. please note the spelling of "Neeshicappo" varies as this is an ojibeway or saulteaux nick name. I was told of this name by my grandfather.
We have yet to see any photos.
Thank you
Karen

Hi Karen,

The photos that I have are from the Willingdon/Shandro/Desjarlais area of northern Alberta. They are probably from the 1920s(?). My family is Ukrainian and these photos are from my family who lived in that area. There are a few old school class photos, but again of the Ukrainian settlement children.

Surnames: Tkachuk
Hi - I have been helping a neighbor trace her ancestors and have just found the death of her great grandparents (I think). Domka & Peter Tkachuk were buried in the St. Mary Cemetery at Shandro. Domka died in Lamont in 1942 and Peter had died 1926. They came from Austria in 1898 with children Oleksa, Magda, Wasyl, Anna and Marya. Marya (or Marguerite) was her grandmother who married John Simituk in 1909.
The surname on the passenger list was Trynczuk.
Any info or contacts with this family would be wonderful and most appreciated.
Thank you,
Catherine Johanson

Hi Catherine - just a suggestion.
You have posted to the above Subject Line
Your Interests are different - you are researching the TKACHUK and SIMITUK families.
Rather than post your message as a thread to the original message posted here
It would be best if you deleted this posting . and re posted as a separate message to the board. That way the thread of the messages would not get mixed together. It would be much easier for you - and others responding to your posting.

If you choose re delete your message and repost - I will delete this one as well - and re post to your new message.

You may find that there may be persons responding re the TKACHUK surname.

Hi there, I know this is an old post however in my research lately my grandmother is from the Willingdon are (lived there from 1908 until about 1940 and in her diary mentioned a person by the name of Irene Shandro, they were friends. If you would like me to look I can see if she is in any of the photos. Her name was Clara Bolan.
