Hi Nadine, glad to see that you did get a reply from
the Alberta Museum.

Since the death Occurred in British Columbia. The Registration is in British Columbia and is now considered Public Record. The film free to search - transcribe - Photo copies are .50 cents or less - depending on copy machine.
I may be back at the library - again- in the next few days -
and can either transcribe or copy the information for you.

Thomas Haddon S HARVEY Age:56 Event:Death
Place Lower Post Date:1950 5 25 (Yr/Mo/Day)
Reg. Number:1950-09-008354
Microfilm #:B13205 (GSU # 2032633)

The Coroners Inquiry may be interesting - wonder if they charge for time and page -I am sure.

Probate: Perhaps they could just copy the pages that would be of interest to you.
Probate records include: Copy of the Will.name address etc of the Executor - Content, value and distribution of the estate - [all that is fine- but doesn't really help find possible family members.]
Includes Names addresses, occupation of all BENEFICIARIES -
Perhaps if they could just copy pages that would be of interest to you.

*Check with Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness - Alberta - there may be someone who visits the archive -and can make copies for you.

Cheers,Stella

Hi Stella,

Thank you for the information. I know for a fact my Thomas H S Harvey was born in Suffolk, England. So don't think what you found in the census is a match unfortunately.

I just had an email form the Alberta museum regarding Thomas's death and this is partly what they said.
------------------------------------------------------------
Re: Information on the death of Thomas Haddon Surville Harvey

Thank you for your inquiry.

I have done a search of our records and was able to find the following records for you:
Death registration - 1 page
Probate file - 20 pages
Coroner's Inquiry - 9 pages

I could not locate an obituary notice as he died in a very remote part of British Columbia and there is no city near where he died that would have a newspaper at that time. The coroner's inquiry does state that his wife was living in Calgary Alberta so you may want to contact the Alberta Archives to see if his wife put an obituary notice in the paper there. This is a link to their web site: http://culture.alberta.ca/archives/
------------------------------------------------------------

Very intersting indeed Stella. they said it would cost quite a bit to send the information to me, so not sure what to do at this moment in time, but then again its been a long day and I'm ready for some shut eye, so may feel different in the morning.

Anyway, thank you once again Stella.

Nadine
Hi Nadine, Excellent Post.
I just checked the 1911 Census for Alberta
1911 Census/ Edmonton/73/Edmonton- page 8
Perhaps:
Thomas HARVEY age 28 born 1883 Scotland - single. Boarder.
Arrived Canada 1904.
there are 12 people listed at the same place -

Which indicates that Thomas HARVEY - may have married in Alberta. between 1911 -and 1916 when they already had a daughter.
Search of 1916 Census -[I don't have access] should show the age of the daughter at the time.[shortening the time frame for the marriage]

You might try to obtain a Genealogical Registration of Marriage - from Govt of Alberta Vital Statistics Registry Offices in Edmonton. The cost will be $40 Cndn.
There is an application form online.
At one time - they would search a couple of years - either side of a given year. So - if you search mid way between 1911 -1916 -

Searched *the Recents - Alberta & BC *do a google search for the site.
some years have 0 information.

Found : Birth Announcement:
Edmonton Daily Bulletin- May 23 1915 page 10
HARVEY, May 23 .To Mr. & Mrs. HARVEY 11121 - 125 Street Edmonton, A Daughter. *Perhaps.

Dog Pound Alberta - from Alberta Place Names:
also known as Bradbourne, 5.29.4.W5 - Mountainview

Cheers, Stella

I am looking for information on a Thomas Hadden Surville Harvey B-1893 Newmarket,England. D-1950 Lower Post, BC.

He was married to an Alice Harvey and they lived with their daughter Joyce in Cochrane Alberta when Thomas signed up to the Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1916. Whilst Thomas was posted abroad Alice lived at 2834-3rd Avenue west, Vancouver, British Columbia, Alberta. When Thomas returned it states on his assestation papers that their address was Dog Pound, Alberta. he was also a rancher before and after the war.

I cannot find a marriage entry for Thomas and Alice in the Britsh Marriage indexes, so wondered if they married in Canada? Also I cannot find a birth record for their daughter Joyce. Did they have more children?

I was wondering if anybody has information on Thomas, Alice & Joyce as I have hit a brick wall.

Regards

Nadine harvey

You might also want to mention the name
Thomas Hadden Surville HARVEY - Alice HARVEY
and that the family has lived in Cochrane Alberta when Thomas Haddon Surville HARVEY enlisted in the Expeditionary forces in the year 1916.
Perhaps someone knows of the date and place of marriage of Thomas HARVEY and Alice ?
Cheers, Stella

Hi, Check with Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness - Alberta -
*there may be volunteers there. A Volunteer for Edmonton offers Cemetery photo's

Contact the Cemetery Office - they will know the name of the funeral Home in charge of arrangements - they may have taken information for an obituary - or may hold a copy with the files.

Edmonton Public Library - may have newspapers in their collection - may offer search/copy.

Cheers & Good Luck, Stella

According to my Alberta index of "Local Histories Listed by Place Names" there is mention of 'Inglis' in two Local History Book.

Inglis was Post Office at section 5-28-3-W5, the same place where William F. RAMSEY had his homestead, some 13 miles north of Cochrane.

Maybe he is mentioned in one of these Local History Books that also includes Cochrane.
Acres and Empires: A History of Municipal District of Rocky View, 1989.
Big Hill Country: Cochrane and area,1977, includes Inglis.
One Days Journey, 1963, includes Inglis.
People and Places by Pearl, 1978.
Taming the Prairie Wool: A history of the Districts, 1965.

I do not see William F. or Lottie RAMSEY in any of the Alberta cemeteries.
http://abgensoc.ca/
Peter
As per Stella's e-mail, I looked up the Red Deer, AB. book called Sod Shacks and Wagon Tracks. The William (Bill) Ramsey in there is not the right one for Jan. This Bill Ramsey was born in 1887 in Ontario and came to Alberta in 1906. His wife's name was Grace Johnson and he was a bricklayer.
I have the book, which covers the area NW of Red Deer, if anyone needs a look up at any time.

Judy, Blackfalds, AB.

He was one of several family members that came to Canada from England in the 1890's and lived for a while near Kingston Ontario. Several of the brothers settled in Jefferson County in New York, while Jesse and his family headed west.

Scott

Thanks so very much. The first one was indeed my Austin Grimes. We had no idea he had a Canadian connection. That has already opened up some new information for us. Thanks a million, Mac- O.R.G.

Austin Grimes, machinist, signed up for WW I giving his b.d. as 13 Nov 1876 in NYC. and Mrs. Orpha Grimes (sister) of Newburg, N. D as next of kin. He signed up 15 Dec 1915 in Calgary, Alberta.
see:http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/02010602_e.html

I don't know if this is him or not but in Cadillac : prairie heritage pg. 300 it says:
Owen and Austin Grimes came from Langman, Saskatchewan. They purchased the S 1/2 15-6-0-13 and farmed for a few years before they sold their land to Remy Bourtin. They had a pool hall and a Dodge car agency in Ponteix. They returned to Lampman.

Likewise for this reference:
The Nose Creek Story from 1792 pg. 142
Passersby:
"Scotty" Morrison, George Scott, Austin Grimes - all good horsemen and dependable assistants in mixed farming.

Looking for any help finding info on Austin or Osten Deazro GRIMES born 1875 in Mina, New York. According to a letter dated April 21, 1926, he was living at Balzac working for a George Church. I think it was a farm or ranch as he was a Barn Manager in the 1910 census.

Thanks a million, Mac, CA
