Charles W. Voorhees family 1921 census Flogstoff?

Hi.

I am researching the Voorhees family in Red Deer. Is/was there such a place called "Flogstoff" in 1921. The enumerator consistently writes the name as "Flogstoff." If there is/was such a place, was it a town?

Thanks for your help.

Bonnie

Search VOORHEES here - change to "text" rather than chapter title.

The Edmonton Library shows that an obituary was published in the 25 Mar 1955 Edmonton Journal for Charles Willard VOORHEES. Try contacting them for a copy.

Hello!
I recently bought vintage pictures in a boutique in Maine.
Under one of them, it was written Flogstoff and also hoko or roko?
I was curious about the place and when I made research I found nothing else but this site who also questions the place...
On this picture, we see two boats (It looks more like a lake than the see) and a woman standing on one of them.
Other pictures in the same lot I bought were from Rhodes Island. But they were not necessarily connected.

Au plaisir,

Édith

The handwriting is a bit difficult - unclear - but it is Flagstaff.

Searching Alberta GenWeb Local History Book site online
finds the following - perhaps family connected

Yes, sstanger1. I have that image and just looked at it again. The census taker had the habit of not using the downstroke in the lowercase letter "a" in certain letter combinations. The lowercase "a" in the name Charles, for Charles Voorhees, for instance, looks like an "o".

Thanks for you help.

Hi Edith.

Perhaps "Flogstaff" was a misspelling, as well. If you get a chance to upload a picture of the postcard, maybe someone who monitors this board could identify the place.

Best regards,

Bonnie

The site is free. http://www.ourroots.ca/e/toc.aspx?id=7550 . Thanks, Butch. Even though I live in Florida, I do use, and did use, Our Roots Canada. It is a valuable resource.
