Tony,
Thank you for replying to my message. I have found the place of Domazlice given as the place where a number of people were from who settled around the town of Wilber, Nebraska in Saline county. Did any of your ancestors go to Canada first, possibly to Alberta province? I would be very interested in hearing about your family. Did they settle in Nebraska?
Wilber, Nebraska is called the Czech Capital of Nebraska. They have a Czech Festival every year and it is well attended. They have held the festival for well over 50 years. It is a huge event. They select the National Czech Queen at the festival.
Was the name Vaclav a common first name for men in Milavc and Domazlice district? Sometimes he was called Wencil or Vencil, in Nebraska he was called James.
I think they must have come to Wilber, Nebraska because they either knew other people from there home area in Bohemia or had relatives who were here but can't find anything more about them.
I found something on one of the federal census records. One of the early 1900 federal census records it has another word with the country from which Vaclav Bittner and his wife came from. It is hard to make out the exact spelling. It is something like "Polanka". I am sure that it starts with the letter P but the other letters are difficult to decipher.
I would love to hear more. If you would like you can email me direct. My email is:
