Hi Pallanite. I am related to the Dufva family through my husband. His mother's sister Elvira Margaret Olson m. Albert Dufva in 1934 in Red Deer. They had 3 sons, Norman, Alfred & Elmer. Albert died in 1949 and Elvira in 1950. I have a short history of the Eric Dufva family but only Selma, Ellen, Gustaf, Ernest, Albert, Axel & Emil are mentioned.
Would be very interested in corresponding with you to share info. Waterglen is near Ferintosh and larger centers Camrose and Wetaskiwin.
Let's keep in touch.
Catherine

My mother was born in Wetaskiwin and lived in Water Glen but her mother moved back to Sweden when she was a child and we have no contacts left in Canada. I have some information about their ancestors. But I have not so much about the children of Erik Dufva and Margaret E Ring. Gustaf, Edwin, Emil have I met, Albert, Axel, Ernst, Ellen and Selma. May I ask are you related to Dufva or Olson? Can you help me. I know they lived on a farm, are Water Glen part of Ponoka? I can not find Water Glen on the map.
Stig

I am trying to find anything on my great great grandfather John Taylor Brown. He was of Scottish decent, but was born in France. This is something I don't understand, but I've been given this by other family members. I'm trying to confirm that he was born in France, and I am also trying to determine how he got into Canada. He lived for quite some time in Alberta, and died in Ponoka in Nov. 1920 on the 14th. He married Mary Ann Kellas, and they lived in the Dakota's. John was a blacksmith by trade. I also see a border crossing in 1915 with a final destination of Thief River Falls where my great grandparents were living in Minnesota.

hi there sigfried is my grampa who passed away not long ago..

Siegfried Blaesner passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at the age of 83 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 30 years, Verna and her family; his sons, Steven (Elizabeth) Blaesner and family of Edmonton and Terry (Brenda) Blaesner and family of Calgary as well as their mother. He was predeceased by one son Kelvin in 1980. Siegfried was born on September 8, 1929 in Tilsit, Germany and immigrated to Canada with his parents at the age of one. They settled in the Ponoka area where he was raised and educated. Sieg joined the Canadian Air Force and worked as an Ariel Mechanic for five years. He worked in Montreal for a time before returning to Alberta settling in Warburg. He was a self taught welder and machinist designing and manufacturing machine tools which became his passion in life. Another dream come true for him was becoming a pilot. Most recently, he settled in Medicine Hat building tools in his backyard shop, as his designs were always in demand. After retiring his shop, his love in life became the internet and reading. No formal funeral service will be held. To e-mail an expression of sympathy, please direct it to: pattfh@telusplanet.net subject heading: Siegfied Blaesner, or you may visit www.gonebutnotforgotten.ca and leave a message of condolence. Funeral Arrangements are by the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM 540 South Railway St. SE, Medicine Hat T1A 4C2

Do sur-name searches in the book as there are many page numbers showing that can be clicked on for tidbits. I couldn't find anything on Backstrom. Butch

The major concern of my investigation is for the purpose of family information, as well as any that may be known of his military service. It would mean a great deal to myself, and my teacher to gain any information about this. ASAP would be excellent, as we leave for Europe on March 19th. Thank you in advance.

I am helping my daughter-in-law find exactly where in the above cemetery her grandmother Nora (Howse) Regnier is buried. She died in either 1932 or 1933.
The family want to put a stone up on the grave.
If you know who has the records, it would be very much appreciated and I thank you in advance for your help.
Sincerely,
Kay Johanson
I am trying to establish the birth year for Owen Lloyd, who was the son of Evan and Amy Belle (nee Lee)of Ponoka. His birth seems to have been post 1991 as he does not appear on the census for that year. His younger brother Ralph was born in 1915 so it should be between early 1911 and 1915.

Thank you for your response. I have been sent the articles you refer to you, which do in fact refer to my Evan Lloyd (from Herefordshire)
I would be pleased to find out if Wayne is still alive and to make contact. I have searched Canada 411 and found some Lloyds in Ponoka and will be making contact.

Thanks

Two Evan Lloyds moved to Ponoka: Evan J. Lloyd from Wales in 1913 and Evan Lloyd from England via Iowa in 1901. His wife's maiden name was Amy Belle Lee. They had six children: Faye, Evan, Frances, Bernard, Owen and Ralph.Owen married Gwen Kyler and they had one son, Wayne, who was a close friend of my brother. I last saw Wayne about ten years ago but I suspect he is still living in Ponoka. The above information comes from a book called Ponoka Panorama, published in 1973 by Ponoka and District Historical Society. If you wish, I could scan the articles about the Lloyds and email them to you. Cheers

Hi, Did you get in touch with Shirley - re the book
The books were published in the 1980's
stories/ historis usually submitted by family member/
I thought it might help give you a clue - as to locations of family members at the time, names of married daughters - grandchildren. Might make research much easier.

I /any other readers did not know that you already had the census. The reason for sending two - was the name of the son Ian -not clear on the 1911 census.
Cheers, Stella

Hi, Your Grandmother Catherine/Katherine/Katie WELECHUK nee SKRYPNYK was born in 1895 Bukovinia.
Did she come to Canada 1913 with family or on her own.
Have you searched for Passenger list.

Catherine married John WELECHUK in 1914.
The Marriage Registration - may show the names of both sets of parents including maiden name of the mothers.

Entered Alberta Hospital for the Insane in Ponoka Alberta in 1918.
Do you know the reason she was admitted to hospital?
Have you obtained her Hospital Records.
Don't know if they are made available in Alberta]
In BC - we obtained Hosptial Records from our Provincial Archive for a great aunt on my husbands side. Very Interesting ,informative. There were copies of letters -photographs when she entered hospital - etc.

The records should show - her place of birth, names of her parents - etc -but all depends on information known.

Perhaps ?
From Alberta GenWeb - Local History Book site
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~canab/lookups.html
WELESCHUK, Mike & Emelia; Pride In Progress; Lamont
There are other WELESCHUK surnames as well

SKRYPNEK, Eugene & Nellie; Rolling Hills and Whispering Pines; Westlock
SKRYPNEK, Henry & Elsie; Rolling Hills and Whispering Pines; Westlock
SKRYPNYK, Jacob & Peal; Dreams & Determination; Athabasca

Cheers, Stella

I'm looking for any info on my grandmother. She was born in Bukovina (part of the Austrian empire) in 1895. She came to Canada in 1913, married John Welechuk in 1914. She had 2 children, Mike and William. Then was admitted to Alberta Hospital for the Insane (in Ponoko, AB) in 1918. Her father also came to Canada (don't know name), and an uncle John Babuik. She was one of 14 children, but as far as I know none of them or her mother came to Canada. (WW1 had started) She stayed at the hos. until 1972 when she was transferred to Rosehaven Institution in Camrose. She died in 1985.

Looking for family of Roy or Eddie Hanson. Mother was Marie Thompson, later married Maurice Canfield. Marie died 7 May 1943 and is buried in Ponoka, AB. They lived in the Ponoka Alberta Canada area. One of these men was a pharmacist. They were first cousins to my father.
