Surnames: CHRIST CRIST GIRKEY PEARSON SCHMELZER
I am seeking descendants of Charles Christ/Crist (the immigrant) and Francis Philumena "Minnie" Schmelzer (of Fairfield County, Ohio). This Charles Christ immigrated to the U.S. to avoid conscription in the Franco-Prussian War and was Alsatian according to family tradition but I haven't been able to prove it. In 1880 he was at Corning (Perry County) Indiana with his wife Minne and two sons, Charles and Paul, both age 1. (Twins?) In 1926, this Charles Jr. was living at Cornoation, Alberta, Canada and in a letter he states that he does not know if his father Charles (the immigrant) is living or dead. He does state that his grandfather's name was also Charles. He states that his oldest living son is Joseph Sylvester Crist, that this son is married to Hellen Girkey, and they are living at Birdsholm (not certain on the spelling. His other son, James Alvin Crist is married to Esther Pearson but he does not have an address for him. He, too, states that his father, Charles (the immigrant) was born in France but he does not know the name of the town or village. I would like to contact anyone who is reseaching this line of Christ/Crists. It may also be spelled Chriest, a name change "due to their father's problem with the Church." This family is Catholic.
