HRUDEY - Wostok

I am failing miserably in my struggles to find a family with an evolving name in unfamiliar territory.
I believe that the family I'm looking for consists of a Peter HRUDEY, wife unknown, family including: Peter?, Steve, Nick, Lena, Demetro, John, Harry.
Steve and Nick believed to be older than Demetro, who was born May 1904 in Wostok, Alberta, so should appear in 1906, 1911, and 1916 census records.
Peter believed to have died around 1910 at Wostok, wife around 1960s.
Spoke Ukranian, possibly from Galicia.

From http://geonames2.nrcan.gc.ca/cgi-bin/v8/sima_name_v8?english
I gather that Wostok is 16-56-17-W4.
I assume from this that this numbering is constant over the assorted censuses?

The ONLY family that comes close so far is this one in 1911 at 14.56.16 W4
?Dwurychk, Wasylyna, 40 widowed b Mar 1971 Bukovinia with children: Petro 19 b Jul 1892 Bukovinia (both emigrated 1899); Froyina? 10 b May 1901, M(i?)etro 7 b Jun 1904, Elana 5 b Feb 1906, Nicholi 3 b Jan 1908 all Alberta.

Can anyone comment on how likely this is actually the family I'm looking for? Possibly enumerated under the wife's maiden name?

The Master Surname Index (not online) (mostly burials in Alberta cemeteries) of the Alberta Genealogical Society lists some 20 HRUDEY names including;

There are only 2 HRUDEY names, burials in Vegreville, at Sec-20-T52-R14-W4.

For further research please contact the Research Committee of the Edmonton Branch.

I would suggest you ask the Research Committee to send you all those (15?) HURDEY names, there would be a small fee.
And then you can look at Obituaries index, goole "Recents".

Oh, you wonderful wonderful people.
Many Many thanks for all that information.

Yes, I was fully aware that spelling would be an issue, and had checked the land grants, but obviously without inventive enough spelling, or as I think I actually did it, with two many wildcards, so gave up on that one until I could find them in the census - which I still haven't. But armed with the land grant "place", I'll try yet again once I figure out which sub division this is in.

Partial success at last, many thanks to the useful information provided.
I figured that Sub Dist 11 had to be the right one in 1906 at least, and scrolled the images until I found 12.56.17, and could then spot what they were indexed as afterwards.

1906, indexed as KRUDEJ, born Austria, although I could interpret the surname as HRUDEJ.
As indexed:
Name Age
Peter Krudej 48
Maria Krudej 28
Elena Krudej 9
Basil Krudej 8
Parostevia Krudej 6
Micholas Krudej 4
Demetrius Krudej 2

In addition the passenger list has been found, with Semen aka Simon listed as 11, not 2, and brings him a bit closer to his age in the 1906 census next door to his parents, aged 25 in 1906.

And I can add that 1901 and 1911 also now found (RUDEJ and HEMBREY in ancestry transcripts respectively).

Once again, many thanks for the leads that made it possible to go from "Peter and Baba" with VERY approximate ages to Peter/Petro and Maria/Marion and family.

You've been a great help.

Lorna

Although this thread is quite old, I thought I should reply, since the family that is described in the first post is quite clearly that of my father's (Steve). Most of the information appears correct, although Demetro was older than Steve, and there was another brother Mike.
