McClelland "Mac" Thomas & wife Jessie Thomas

Thanks to "peterandrose_2" I finally learned when and where my great Uncle Mac Thomas and wife Sarah Jessie Thomas died and are buried. Both are buried next to one another at Swalwell Union Cemetery, in Kneehill County. Mac having died 18 Feb 1938, and Jessie 14 Jan 1946. I've also learned they had two homestead files, #2298-1 and #2298-2 for section 29 Township 29 Range 24 Meridian 4 and I have requested copies of those files from the Alberta Genealogical Society. I assume that this land would have been in or around what is known as Swalwell township, but that could be an incorrect assumption I suppose.

In the 1910 US census they were still living in Iowa. I can't find them in the 1920 US census, so don't know when they moved to Canada. Any assistance in obtaining photos of the headstones, finding obituaries, or any other information about these adventuresome pioneers from my family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Reid Cooper

BALL FAMILY NEAR THREE HILLS

I am trying to find out some information about a great uncle of mine who settled in the Three Hills area.
Reginald Ernest Ball settled on the North-West quarter of Section 27, Township 30, Range 22, West of the 4th Meridian. He patented the land on the 8th of March, 1913.

Reg. Ball married Ermyrutrude Annetta Keith Little in April 1915 at St. Michael & All Angles Church, Crescent Heights (possibly Calgary).
According to an elderly aunt of mine the couple had one son, named Derick Beaty Keith Ball. I have had a search done of the Provincial birth records from the time around 1915 to 1920 but there is no record of a child by that name either in Alberta or Ontario.

In the book "As the years go by . . . Three Hills Rural Community Group" (p. 239) there is the Frank Buckerfield Story. Frank was the cousin of Reg Ball. The story says" My cousin did not like my cooking and sold his share of the farm to me in 1920, and he returned to Ontario."
In another publication "Memoirs of the Ghost Pine Homesteaders" it says "The settlers got together in 1908 to organize the first burial ground and church. The building committee consisted of Fred Buckerfield, Reg Ball.... Christ Church (Anglican) was built in 1908 and consecrated by Bishop Cyprian Pinkham, Bishop of Calgary."

Unfortunately the marriage between Reg Ball and Ermyrutrude Little ended in divorce sometime around the time he returned to Ontario and my family history trail seems to have run out.
Reg's father was an Anglican minister in Ontario and since he was involved with the building of Christ Church I feel fairly sure that if his son was baptised then it would likely have been in an Anglican Church.

I am trying to find out what happened to Reg's wife and his son. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Michael Ball
65 McGee Street
Toronto, ON, M4M 2L1
aa03965@ican.net
Hey there, my hubby and I just bought a house in Innisfail and have been told by many that it used to be the old Kneehill General Store. If anyone out there has a picture of it in it's glory days I would love to have it so that I can put it up somewhere in the house to accentuate it's wonderful and rich heritage. If there's any other info about the house such as when it was moved into Innisfail and why it was moved etc. we would love to have that as well. Thanks so much. Vanessa

This couple was in Granger (ran a general store) , Bircham (operated Imperial Oil station & Bawlf grain elevator). Most of this info from the publication Acme Memories (?)

Nancy died after the blizzard of March 1951 in Bircham and Ted died in 1966 in Crossfield. Both are buried in the Acme cemetary as far a we know.
I'm looking for newspaper death notices, obituaries or other sources that might give me the names of the parents for both Edward Wilson and Nancy (Ann) (Thornton) Wilson.

Can anyone tell me what newpapers cover these towns where I might find more information? Can anyone tell me if death certificates in Alberta include the names of parents and birth cities/countries (they do in BC)?

Appreciate any help I can get

I am seeking information on my great-great grandfather, James LEA who resided in Three Hills and Trochu. James was born in Shropshire, England in 1872 and came to Canada in 1905 with his first wife, Hannah FORRESTER LEA and their 5 eldest children. Their last child was born in Alberta and Hannah died in Trochu in Oct 1910.

James then married, in Dec 1910, Helen Frances GREY O'DONNELL who was born in 1876. She had with her a young daughter, Eileen O'DONNELL (who *may* have been illegitimate, it is uncertain at this point, but family tradition says she was), born in 1908 and who later died in 1913. Helen died in Trochu in Oct 1912.

James married his third wife, Hannah Elizabeth WICKHAM of Manchester, England, in 1913. Hannah was a schoolteacher in , I think, Three Hills and in 1918 she was a Deputy Registrar of the Canada Registration Board for the Three Hills area. James and Hannah had a daughter, Eileen Wickham LEA, born in Nov 1915 and who later died in March 1917. Hannah died in 1926 in Three Hills.

James married lastly, Catherine BURKE of Vancouver, BC in 1930. They were later divorced.

James died in St. Mary's Hospital in Trochu in Nov 1956 and was buried in Three Hills.

James's eldest five children, all dead, include John (Jack), Doris Annie (Dolly), Fred Vincent, Harry Denis and Albert (Bert) Forrester. The youngest child is still living.

Any information on this family is very much appreciated. I can be reached at polgara@telus.net .

Cheers,

Laury Walkey
Armstrong, BC
polgara@telus.net

PS

I do have a copy of the community history book on Three Hills which has the article written on the LEA pioneering family by James's son, John (Jack) LEA.

I have just recently started searching for family. My paternal grandmother's name was Irma Irene McGhee b. 1900 not sure where, died Oct 1969 in Prince George, BC. I have found her name on a list contributed to Alberta Digital Archives by Ginnie Tromp. There are 15 other McGHEE names on the list, some sound familiar (Harvey, Grace, Warner, Laura) but I don't know how they all fit. She married Alfred Martinus Olsen and had 4 living children, Dallas Birk Olsen (killed at 21 yrs in sawmill accident), Irene (Fitchner), Ruth (Orr) and Ray Wallace Olsen (my father). I remember reading a book about Munson and Orkney District when I was a teenager, but I don't know who has it now. There was quite a bit of info re my family in that book. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

He was born to William Herron and Rachel Marsh in Gernsey (later known as Nobel County)Ohio on March 15th,1857. Married a Nettie whose last name is unknown to me. Children were Ada, Myrtle, John, and a fourth of which I do not have name on record.
