Hello,

There is a Jacob Fischer in the Calgary area on the 1911 census at:

http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/View.jsp?id=8951&...

Members of the family above appears in the following book on pages 242-246:

http://www.ourfutureourpast.ca/loc_hist/page.aspx?id=859942

The above book says that the Fischers stayed with the Keim family at some point. The Keim family also appears in the book above.

Hopefully this is a match for you.

The Master Surname Index (not online) (mostly burials in Alberta cemeteries) of the Alberta Genealogical Society lists these possible names;

Jacob FISCHER, 1863 - 1916 and
Christina FISCHER, 1868 - 1921 (first hus Jacob, 2nd hus Fred WAGNER)
buried in the Church of God S.D.A. cemetery at Acme.
It appears children of Jacob are also buried in this cemetery.

Unfortunately, these can't be my Jacob. My Jacob was born in 1886 - well documented thru census and other documentation. In 1900, he was still in Kansas living with his widowed mother, Christine, and 4 other brothers. He was the only one to leave home for Canada - Christine and the other boys remained in the US.

There are several Jacob Fischer/Fisher homestead records "sort of" near Calgary but there is no way to tell if any of them is the correct one unless I order all the homestead records which would be quite expensive. Being a US citizen, would he have had to do anything special to homestead in Canada around 1910? Would he have to become a naturalized citizen first?
