Have information of ROCHUS Harty (born 1843, died Feb 1922 & buried in Faith) and his wife JOANNA HEINZMANN/HEINTZMAN (born 1844, died ?) settled in Faith sometime after they immigrated from Russia in 1901. Did they have family?

Anyone have any information on this family? Would appreciate any and all help.

Grace

The Master Surname Index (not online) (mostly burials in Alberta cemeteries) of the Alberta Genealogical Society lists some 20 Harty names including;

Rochus HARTY, 12 May 1843 - 20 Feb 1922
buried in the Sacred Heart Catholic near Formost. No Joanna, but 9 other Hary's in this same cemnetery.

You can also find 6 Harty's that have taken homesteads (Western Land Grants) here at Canada National Archives
http://www.archives.ca/02/0201_e.html
The old Faith post office was at Township 4, Range 9.
Those homesteads were on Township 3, Range 9 & 10.
The cemetery is on Township 4, Range 9, all within about 6 miles from each other.
Other Harty burials are in other nearby cemeteries.

Peter,
I really appreciate all the information you sent me on the Harty name.

From the information on www.archives.ca, I am assuming that Faith is in the Medicine Hat region, is this so?
Might have to take a trip down there!

Just returned from Edmonton and while there joined the AGS, Edmonton Branch. On my next trip down there, it will be just for researching and hopefully some of the brick walls will start falling.

It sure is nice to know that there are people like you out there willing to help us newbies.

Thanks again,
Grace

I am a grandson to Rochus Harty.

The information that I have regarding his first wife is that her name was Elizabeth Heintzman, but that info is not cast in stone. Her name (at least in my opinion) is not known for sure.

His second wife was Julianna Weber. Their sixth child was Fred and I am his son.

I have available a few hundred of names of his descendants. So, to answer your question - YES, they did have family.

Looking forward to your reply.

Paul

Paul,
Thank you for your information on the Harty family. I posted this for a fellow member of a genealogy club that I belong to in Arizona (spend the winters there) and have forwarded your response to him and I am sure he will get back to you.

I posted the initial message for a fellow genealogist in Arizona (we spend our winters there). If you contact Frank Mosset: fmosset@cs.com
I am sure he would be very happy to hear from you.
