I do not agree with the statement that "Galahad was also known as Alliance". A postmaster was assigned in 1907 and the name Galahad approved for a post office northwest of Alliance on my granduncle's homestead in his store.

After a move to my grandfather's homestead nearby and a rebuild, the store was ultimately moved west northwest to the present townsite by then owner Tom Watson when the railroad finally went through. The postoffice went with it and so did its legal name.

Hi, Sorry I can't be of help - but a thought - Have you considered contacting the Cemetery Office - they may have some information. They will know the name of the Funeral Home in charge of arrangements - The Funeral Home - may have taken the information for the Registration of Death - perhaps they may be able to assist with some questions - without invading the privacy of the deceased.

Public Libray for Daysland - Or Daysland Municipality - may have information re Mah Wing Hime and the Daysland Cafe - that may help with your quest.
Cheers, Stella

Hi:

The suit was filed by Romeo J. Miquelon and the Calgary Brewing & Malting Co. Limited (Plaintiffs) against Camille Miquelon and Peter Patenaude (Defendants). The action was brought to cover $5711.70, the amount due on a mortgage, dated the 17th day of July 1907, covering Lots 30 and 31, Block _3, Plan 945R, and made by the Defendants, Peter Patenaude and Camille Miquelon, of Hardisty, Alta, and for an order that in default of such payment the mortaged premises be sold or that the defendants do stand thenceforth absolutely debarred and foreclosed of and from all interest in the said mortgaged premises.

I believe the two of them invested in the Cecil hotel in Hardisty.

Looking for an exact DOD/obit for Mah Wing Hime, who lived in Daysland, Alberta and ran the Daysland Cafe. He died in 1959 in Daysland and was interred at the Daysland Cemetery. His gravestone does not list exact dates of birth and death but I was wondering if there would be any other resources to contact for this info (AGS Master Surname Index?). I am aware of a listing in an Alberta Business Directory and a listing in "Along the Crocus Trail", a History of Daysland and Districts.

He originally came from Red Deer, but I'm not sure which year he came over to Canada, though we may have something that can tell us this.

Thanks!
Born 30 Mar 1884 at Hanceville, BC. Died 05 Apr 1951. They were not married. Doreen married Cecil Carder in BC. He died about 1953 in Sooke/Glen Lake BC. No details available here. She remarried a Robert (Bob) Brown, later on. No date here.At some point they got divorced. Unknown if he moved to Alberta with her. I tracked the Alberta phone directory and find her listed several times at Flagstaff, Killam. She is using her maiden name of Miller. She died in 2006 at Killam, Alta. No other details available.
Hi. Thanks for your input. Doreen's maiden name was Miller. First, she married Cecil Carder in BC. He died about 1953 in Sooke, BC. Second marriage was to Robert (Bob) Brown. I don't know if they divorced or not. I see her name as Miller in the Alberta directories. She died in Killam, Alberta in 2006. Her father was Gavin Alonzo Miller from Lillooet, BC and her mother was Alice Emile Hance, from Hanceville, BC. She had a brother Raymond whom died in Kamloops abt 2004, sisters Daisey, Ethel, Dorothy, and Marjorie. A son Cecil Jr., died in Manitoba. Details are sketchy on this part of my family. She didn't want contact with anyone. Thanks for any support. My e-mail is: d.byron@shaw.ca Darrel.

Hi Stella. Thanks for your reply. Doreen Brown was born in the Cariboo April 1926, to Gavin Alonzo Miller and Alice Emile Hance. Not known if she had a middle name. Her maiden name was Miller. She married a fella by the name of Cecil Carder and had five children by him. Cecil was killed/murdered in Glen Lake/Sooke are in the 50's. Doreen then married Robert (Bob) Brown. I believe she had several more children by him, but this info is not available. One of those children died young in Alberta. Doreen's siblings are: Raymond Gavin Miller, born: 05 Apr 1918 at Big Bar, BC, and died in Kamloops. Daisey Belle (Miller) Allan, born 18 Nov 1919 at Big Bar. Died in Kamloops. Ethel Rosalee (Miller) Bangham, born Jan 1923 at Big Bar and died 15 Oct 1992 in Ashcroft. Dorothy Evelyn (Miller)Durdle , born Jan 1923 and died in St. Thomas, Ontario. Marjorie Gloria (Miller)Byron, born 07 Jun 1928 at Duncan, BC, and died 07 Jul 2004 on Salt Spring Island BC.I have researched Ancestry.ca, BC Vital Statistics, The LDS site and Google. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks. Darrel.

Stella:

thanks for the advice! The last census record I have for Peter with his family in a Census was the 1901 Canadian census which is what you've cited below. The 1906 census shows that Mary and the children are now living in Winnipeg. I have other sources that indicate she arrived in 1904 and put the kids in orphanages ... with instructions that there was to be no contact with Peter.

The Henderson directories show that Peter continued to be in Wetaskiwin until about 1907 or 1908. The 1903 Wetaskiwin times said that Peter was going to Red Lake Falls Minnesota for a few months to visit friends ... and a 1904 reference suggests he arrived back in Wetaskiwin. Mary's family was in that area and Peter/Mary were married there ... so my hunch is that they traveled there as a family ... Mary stayed in Winnipeg with the kids ... and Peter returned to Wetaskiwin.

The 1907 Calgary newspaper reference points to Peter Patenaude purchasing the Cecil Hotel in Hardisty along with Camille Miquelon. The only reference after that is the legal notice in 1910.

Property records from Wetaskiwin show Peter's properties being sold off between 1905 and 1909. He owned a livery stable ... and owned/raced horses and horse-drawn carts in various fairs.

The 1911 Census shows Mary with the kids in Winnipeg ... and she's listed there as Widowed. She then remarried in 1912 in Winnipeg and is listed with the kids and her new husband in the 1916 census.

I did get the Alberta vital statistics to search records for Peter's death in the 1904 to 1906 window ... they found nothing. I may now get them to search the 1907 to 1910 window as you suggested.

So the last known mention of Peter is the joint-purchase of the Cecil hotel in Hardisty ... in 1907. So I'm going on the theory that he died sometime between 1907 and 1912 ...

Thanks again!

Mike

Hi, Just curious - in your message you place a possible death 1909/1910 - though there is a news clipping req.Peter to appear in court 1910. Why do you believe that Peter PATENAUDE may have passed away in that time frame?
Do you know his aprox. date of birth etc.
5 116 Patenaud Peter M Head M Nov 18 1868 32
6 116 Patenaud Mary F Wife M Sep 26 1876 24
7 116 Patenaud Albert M Son S Dec 25 1893 7
8 116 Patenaud Arthur M Son S Jan 7 1896 5
9 116 Patenaud Laura F Dau S Jun 28 1897 3
10 116 Patenaud Dona M Son S Jan 30 1899 2
11 116 Patenaud Wilfrid M Son S Mar 20 1900 0

Do any of the family appear in the 1906 , 1911, 1916 Census?

Perhaps: Contact the Provincial Archive - re the court hearing re the Mortgage in Wetaskiwin. They will be able to advise if they have records - or where they may be available -

They may hold newspapers for the area - where there may be further info - perhaps also location of the family - deaths, burials etc.
**the Archive may have some info - index - of deaths ?
Contact the Cemetery for Hardisty Ab. They may be able to advise re burials:
http://www.hardisty.ca/community_org/cemetery.htm

The Govt of Alberta Vital Statistics Registry Offices - will do a search - a few years either side of a given time/year - The cost for a Genealogical Registration of Death is $40. **don't know if they would do a search -without a fee.
The following may be helpful:
http://ukrainiangenealogist.tripod.com/wetaskiwin/

1901 Census
11 44 Miquelon Camille Head M M 35
12 44 Miquelon Adelide Wife F M 32
13 44 Miquelon Alice Daughter F S 10
14 44 Miquelon Albertine Daughter F S 8
15 44 Miquelon Ernest Son M S 6
Cheers & Good Luck, Stella
Peter Patenaude in Hardisty

Hi:

I'm trying to determine where/when my great grandfather died ... and am wondering if it was in Hardisty. I've done research and found Peter Patenaude living in Wetaskiwin with his wife Mary and kids ... according to the 1901 census.

Peter owned a livery stable in Wetaskiwin between the Criterion and Driard Hotels ... and rebuilt there after a fire destroyed the block in 1903. I've got a newspaper reference from the Daily Herald in Calgary, dated 4 Apr 1907 that says Peter helped Camille Miquelon purchase the Cecil Hotel in Hardisty, AB in 1907. A newspaper clipping from Wetaskiwin in 1910 is calling Peter to appear in court there to deal with an outstanding Mortgage claim for property in Wetaskiwin ... Camille is mentioned as a co-defendent ... and Camille's brother is filing the suit.

So I'm wondering if there's any record of Peter in Hardisty ... perhaps his burial ... around 1909 and 1910.

Thanks!

Mike Patenaude

The youngest Gwyneth was 4 years old on the 1916 census so born about 1912. So I imagine that the family moved to Hardisty somewhere between 1912-1916.

Deb

Hi there, I am searching for a family whose last name I do not know. Emilie was born in 1901, she married Rudolph Brayer in 1925(?). They had a daughter named Elizabeth, born May 31, 1926 in Hardisty, AB. Elizabeth died at 3 months 15 days on Sep 15, 1926 in Edmonton. I have a copy of the registration of death for Elizabeth, but it does have parents names just Country of birth which both replied as Poland.Paper signed by R. Brayer. Emilie Brayer then passed away on Nov 27, 1926 at the age of 21. Obituary states that her parents and a brother of Hardisty as mourners. No names.
Does this sound familiar to anyone's family history?

Hi,

Looking for any information on David William Morgan (b. May 30 1870, d. Sept. 1930). He emigrated to the US from Wales as a young man. He started in Ohio, then went to Elwood, Indiana. In 1911, he and his family moved to the Hastings Coulee district of Alberta, close to the town of Heisler, where he built a farm. He had three sons (Charlie, Allen b. 1898, and Chester (Bud) b. 1904) and two daughters (Mary b. 1902, and Ila b. 1907). I'm more interested in finding the parents of David William, but any information you can provide would be great!
