Yes there was a hospital in Wayne. Actually there was two. The first one was turned into a place for newborns when the second hospital was built in 1929. Wayne had the first hospital in the valley for a short period of time. The hospital was situated across the tracks from the Western Cafe ( Fongs store)The first hospital was torn down about 5 years ago, the second one in 1957. Yes there was a ferry at Cambria, crossing the Red Deer River. From there you went to Wayne, either up the Raymond hill and down the May West hill or down what is now called the Eleven Bridges Road.

Hello, I'm searching for info about J. H. McLean who I was told came from the Verdun Valley/Drumheller area into the Hand Hills in the late 20s or early 30s to work as a hired-hand on someone's farm(s)there.

He had a wife & family, & about 1930-31, he left the Hand Hills for destination unknown.

Anyone out there know who he is OR where he ended up to get an obituary to know a bit more about him?

Where did Harvey & Alena Davis live when they adopted this child in November?

Where was this child living for 3 months until then she was surrendered for adoption?

I'm kinda thinking this could be the child I'm looking for because her grandma was named Minnie, so that is fitting.

Where was the child born on 31 March 1931? At home? I've searched the records & I can't find a mention of her anywhere & births at home would be later recorded in those records.

Interested.

I don't think the child you are referring to in My Thread, is the same one because she was not born in South America, but in Delia, Drumheller, Hanna or some place in the area Or even Calgary, AB, CANADA.

What precisely does your information record regarding the Father & Mother of the Child? You've written "They list name of Kenneth capball McLeod..." however I doubt 'capball' is the name but Campbell, please use your eagle eyes.

Yes, we have (the adoption order) the district court of lethbridge papers on the adoption. They list name of Kenneth capball McLeod and Harvey Davis as providing affidavits for the adoption. From the Social Services of Alberta, we have the History of adopive child Which state that the mother was 16, single, English, the father was 44, scottish and place of birth was South America. Any help at locating these families would be helpful in our search for her family.

Thanks for the reply
Felix Hodges
felixhodges@charter.net

Hi Stella,
I did find a newspaper article about John Herbert Robinson sudden death at his home in Newcastle Monday morning. It was in the Drumheller Review dated Thursday Nov. 3, 1932. States his age as 47, a fire boss at the Western Gem Coal Mine. A Dr. G.H. Whitmore was called but it was too late. His wife ( Jane, she was called Jenny ) having predeased him. ( Haven't found where she is buried yet). It says the remains were removed to Humphries Funeral Home and funeral arrangements were pending on the arrival of another daughter. (Isabell) The paper says he was living in Drumheller about 3 years.
His daughter Elizabeth was staying with him at the time.

I am looking for suggestions finding the burial locations for William R. and Bertha J. Neal. According to the book AKOKINISKWAY "by the river of many roses" quoting from the article INFLUENZA IN ROSEBUD by Hilda Jones on page 323 "My Dad and Homer Jones and Carl Rising carried them out to the porch after my mother did what she could to prepare them. There they were until it could be arranged for the train to carry them away." I am trying to determine where the train would have taken the bodies. William died on Oct. 22, 1918 and Bertha died Oct. 25, 1918. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Adopted ginger curly haired baby girl BROWN Born 1930 +-2 years

Adopted ginger curly haired baby girl BROWN Born 1930 +-2 years (maybe?)

This little girl child was born from the union of Marian North BROWN born 24JAN14 & a ranchhand named Mc or MacLean (this name may be not correct) who came into The Hand Hills during the late 1920s or 1930s from the Verdun Valley area. The McLean family moved out of The Hand Hills area not having established any roots, either because of the dirty 30s with no work available OR perhaps on account of knowing of the pregnancy.

Marian, during her pregnancy, stayed with Mrs Susan MORRISON & her daughter Jean#2 in Delia until the baby was born. It was thought that the baby was born in the Hanna hospital however searches have not found Marian BROWN registered in the Hanna nor Drumheller hospitals. Marian may have gone to Calgary OR gave birth using a false first name if that were permitted back then?

It is unknown the date & year of birth of the baby girl but Jean#2 recalls that it was not winter (early Spring or Fall perhaps) as she was about 7 or 8 years of age at the time around 1932 & was playing with a friend outside. This could be 1932 +/- a couple of years.

Charlie MORRISON married Mabel BROWN in DEC 1935 & lived on the Hand Hills homestead so Mrs Susan MORRISON & her daughter Jean#2 would move into Delia to winter there since there wasn’t any room for them to live with the newlyweds. Mrs Susie MORRISON moved permanently to Delia to live in 1936, so this baby girl was born prior to 1936.

This woman would be the eldest blood grandchild of Minnie L. READ-BROWN & Hugh N. BROWN. Rumours have circulated that the father of this girl child was Mr Peacock but this has been said to be untrue.

The baby girl was said to have been born with red curly hair and no one in this Hand Hills BROWN Family has red hair.
Hello

My dad roomed with a Mrs Bulechowski in Rosedale, which was a small hamlet outside of Drumheller. When I knew her, she was an old lady. Her husband worked in the Drumheller Coalmine & died from it. She had a few sons: Alex, & Fred is one I can remember. Freddie moved to San José, CA, USA. Another died in a drunk car crash. Gosh I'd have to ask my dad about the names of them all.

Mrs Bulechowski's English was very limited so I couldn't converse with her as I didn't speak Ukrainian, but she was a great fun lady who was warm & generous & kind. We children called her Baba Bulechowski & I loved Easter because she would buy us Easter candies.

Hello

I asked my dad who knew that BULECHOWSKY family in Rosedale, AB.

Alexander BULECHOWSKY & Catherine (née HUSIO) had 4 sons:
1) Alec married Nellie who was Hungarian & they lived in Calgary, AB & did not have children.

2) John aka Yanky married & divorced Dolores & they had about 8 children, 1 that was around my age was Shawn (spelling?)

3) Billy was married to Ita & they divorced. Billy was killed in a car accident probably early 70s or late 60s. They had 3 sons.

4) Fred married & divorced Wendy. He moved to San José, CA, USA as of 1985ish.

John & Billy lived either in Rosedale OR Drumheller.

That is all that can be told. The names are English spellings of the Ukrainian & as you will note, my dad spelled it Bulechosky without an i and the end. That gets to be a sticky problem when these words get translated over, some documents have them with i or y. What fun!

Good luck with your Family Tree search.

Hello Beverly,
I have just come upon your message of 2000!
The family you mention were, I'm very sure, my grandmother's nephew, Cuthbert, his wife, Charlotte and family. I had knew that they had a son called Joseph but didn't have the others. Cuthbert's mother was Mary and father, Thomas.
I don't have anything on Thomas Hooks family but quite a bit on Mary's.
Hopefully you will receive this message.

Hi, Do you have the Obituary for the John ROBINSON dcd
October 31 1932?
If an Obituary was published - *those were the depression years it may mention other family members etc.
Cemetery Office - May have record -of some personal information .
Because these were Depression years - there may not be a marker.
Cheers, Stella

Hi, Perhaps contacting the Public Library for Drumheller
http://www.drumhellerlibrary.ca/
They may hold newspapers in their collection - may do a lookup for you.
The Cemetery Office - will know the name of the Funeral Home in Charge of arrangements. The Funeral Home may have also taken information for an Obituary.
The Obituary may be helpful - but there may not be enough information to help with family research. Many do not give a personal history.

Genealogical Registration of Death - will hold all personal information required at the time. Name, date and place of birth. Names of Parents including maiden name of the mother - Place of birth of parents - etc.
Obtain from the Govt of Alberta Vital Statistics Registry Offices - The cost in the $40 range.

Cheers, Stella

Looking for information about a John E. Derby who married a woman-name unknown-and they were living in Drumheller, Alberta, Canada in 1913. They had at least one child but divorced sometime bet 1910-1920. In 1917 John was living in N.Y. In 1920 he was living in Maine. What was Mrs. John Derby's maiden name? Did she remarry? What happened to her descendants? I am mostly interested in finding a male descendant.

Edith Georgina Hamilton was born Nov 3 1893 in Sarnia On. They emigrated to Hemaruca many years later. Looks like she got married to L A Sherrer Oct 1938. She was a doctor and apparently one of the first Lady doctors in Alberta

I realize you wrote this a few years ago, have you had any luck finding a list of men that worked at Drumheller or who died in mining accidents. I believe a family member, William McKinnie (b. abt 1890 near Glasgow, Scotland; worked in the mines in the 1920s), also died in a mining accident at Drumheller. I can't find any documentation though. Have you had any luck? Thank you for any help.

Sarah
