I lived in Wayne for some time back in the 1950's and there was never a hospital there. The nearest one was in Drumheller. Wayne only consist of a General Store, 2 Grain Elevators, a Hotel & a Church. I also never heard of a Ferry, as there were only little rivers between Wayne and East Coulee that you could swin across. If you want more information you could contact a Fred Dayman there, he owns the only Hotel there & has lived there all his life. His family orignates from that area and he has researched the total history of the area. Good Luck.

I'm sorry, but I lived in Wayne, Alberta and the closest Hospital is in Drumheller. If there is a Hospital, please describe where it is located?
|
Yes there was a hospital in Wayne. Actually there was two. The first one was turned into a place for newborns when the second hospital was built in 1929. Wayne had the first hospital in the valley for a short period of time. The hospital was situated across the tracks from the Western Cafe ( Fongs store)The first hospital was torn down about 5 years ago, the second one in 1957. Yes there was a ferry at Cambria, crossing the Red Deer River. From there you went to Wayne, either up the Raymond hill and down the May West hill or down what is now called the Eleven Bridges Road.

Yes there was a ferry at East Coulee, it was located west of the train bridge, I know as I went on it a number of times, once when it wasn't working so we walked across the train bridge stepping on ties there was also a ferry at Dorothy east of East Coulee
