Surnames: VENDRASCO
Thank you to whomever posted the link for cemetery archives as I was able to locate names of my paternal grandmother, Anna Vendrasco who died during the influenza epidemic of 1920, my father's cousin Fred, birthname FIOREVANTE, who was killed in the Hillcrest explosion, and another relative Nevis.

Interested in hearing from anyone who may have heard of or knew any Vendrasco's who lived in the Blairmore/Lethbridge area from approx. 1905- 1930.

Planning my first visit to the area summer of 2014 so hope to locate graves and places of my father's childhood memories.

Thank you.
Carol

Hello Carol

you may have seen this but just in case it is of interest: a biography of one of the Vendrasco family (place around with the site - it has a very handy search feature)

http://www.ourfutureourpast.ca/loc_hist/page.aspx?id=3560297

and another helpful site with mentions of the same family name (again play around with the search feature for other names)

All the best

Hi Carol,

I just found your post mentioning the Hillcrest Mine explosion. My grandpa lost 4 uncle's in that disaster as well. Next June is the 100th anniversary of the mine explosion, and the town is hosting a commemorative anniversary for it - www.hillcrestmine100.com. 3 generations of our family are going. Since your trip is coming up in the summer, maybe it can be timed so you can be there for it?

Thanks for this information, Nikki.

I will keep it in mind when planning my visit to Alberta and will make other family members aware of this event.
