Am looking for any information on a Jay Johnson who ranched near Leslieville til his death around 1965. I think "Jay" was a nickname. His partner was Elida "Lidy" Wagar. They had 5 kids: Alice (the oldest, born January 1948), Ted, Ralph, Eddy and Wayne (the youngest). Elida had 2 older boys from a different relationship: Donald and Allan.
Someone in the area picked the kids up for Sunday School as I have a certificate from Sunday School that has my husband as Donald Johnson (all the kids use the Wagar surname when since I've known them). I think the same person visited Ted in Red Deer Nursing Home and if I recall correctly this person at some time had something to do with the postal service.
When we first visited the place the old buildings were still there but no one was "living" there. Later someone built a corral system and appeared to be breaking horses but no one was home when we dropped by.
Jay and Elida lived in a 3 room house at the top of a hill; partway downhill toward the road was a spring.
Elida left when Wayne was two, so about 1960? The kids had no contact with Jay after she left. She moved to Hoadley and then to Winfield. Don left at age 14 but remained in the area working, including on threshing crews, and at one time had a bush clearing business with one of either Jack Willow's or Jack White's boys. He moved to Edmonton and then northern Manitoba.
Jay died sometime in the mid 1960's.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
