Seeking information on the family of John (Jack) Shaw who farmed in the Condor area from about 1907. John died in 1946 and his buried at Leslieville Cemetery. John was born in Edinburgh in 1864, he lived in Chicago from about 1890 until his first wife died in 1902. John returned to Inverness, Scotland and married Marian Shaw and they went to Calgary in 1906. I think he married again to a Mrs, Warren - widow in 1934. John was my great uncle.
Many thanks in advance for information.

Hi Min,
There's a reference to a Mrs. Warden marrying a Jack Shaw on pg. 695 of Homesteads and Happiness
http://www.ourroots.ca/e/toc.aspx?id=4913
They married in Aug 1934 and it says they lived first in the house next to the Condor Hall until Jack Shaw built a new house across the road. Jack Shaw d. in 1946 and Mrs. Shaw in 1948.

Hi Bette,

Many thanks for your prompt reply. Would you know if there are descendents in the Condor area of Jack Shaw.
When he went to Chicago about 1890, he married a Scots girl Helen Bowie, they had 3 sons and 2 girls. When Helen and the youngest son died. The 2 boys stayed with Johns sister Elizabeth in Chicago and the 2 girls were brought up in Scotland by their grandparents and my mothers parents.
My mother was a first cousin to John. John married Marian Shaw at Inverness and they are first recorded in the 1906 Calgary census.
One of Johns grandsons from Chicago was killed in WW2.
Could you give me any hints how I could find out what happened to Marian Shaw and if John and Marian had any children?

Many thanks,

Min

Dear Min,

I don't know how to find that information, except to see if you can locate his death reg'n - you might get it from the provincial vital stats, and then can locate an obituary. The other, of course, is whether or not you can be successful in finding any of the Warden offspring who might know. However, I think it's doubtful because Mrs. Warden's only surviving child (Roy) was born in 1899 and she doesn't marry Jack Shaw until 1934 and then dies in 1946, after Jack who died 1946. There' no mention in this bio of any Shaw step-children to the Warden's- who would be about 10 or younger - who need to be taken care off.

At http://www.ourroots.ca/e/search.aspx you can choose "exact phrase" and type "Jack Shaw" and finally choose "text" and you will find 3 pages where he and "Marion" are mentioned in the local history book, "Days Before Yesterday : History of Rocky Mountain House District".

Hello from New Zealand,
Very many thanks for you information. Jack Shaw was my great uncle.
I spent last night reading the old issues of "The Red Deer Advocate" online.
