Rose "Rosie" OWENS-WILKINSON
I have just begun looking into my genealogy and found I'm related to Rosie OWENS WILKINSON. I believe she was born Rose OWENS in County Cavan, Ireland in 1885. She imagrated to Calgary in about 1927 with her husband Fred WILKINSON. In 1935 Rosie was elected to the Calgary government and later to the Alberta government. This is all I know. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Rose "Rosie" OWENS-WILKINSON
We do not tie in with this family, but having lived in Calgary for a number of years, we recognize Rose Wilkinson's name as former Alderman and Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the province of Alberta. It seems unfortunate that no one has responded to your 2001 enquiry, so, in 2003, we felt that we should provide you with a little encouragement. The City of Calgary has a website, and an archives section, so start there as there are Aldermanic biographies available. Then also get in touch with the Province of Alberta website for her career as MLA.
Good luck!

Re: Rose "Rosie" OWENS-WILKINSON
Hello! I know you posted this post regarding Rose Wilkinson many years ago, but I have just found it now, twleve years later. I am her Great Granddaughter and I live in Calgary. I have just joined ancestry.ca and I a trying to track down even more information on her.The Glenbow Museum here in Calgary has some archival information about her time as a member of the Legislative Assembly. My grandmother and mother also grew up here. If you are still interested in knowing more about her, I have a few pictures and some general information. She was an amazing woman and we are proud to be part of her legacy!

Re: Rose "Rosie" OWENS-WILKINSON
Hello, Greetings from Ireland. I think that Rose was my grandmother's sister. My grandmother's name was Annie Clarke nee Owens from half way between Baileborough and Virginia in Co. Cavan. I think that your grandmother visited Ireland in the 1950's. We have a picture of her.

Re: Rose "Rosie" OWENS-WILKINSON
Anne - I think I just responded to you in another post. :-) Sounds like we may related. Rose Owens was my great, grandfather's sister. My great, great grandparents on my father's side of the family had a number of children including Mathew Owens (my great, great grandfather), Eugene, Rose, Annie Francis (your grandmother? born about 1890), and I have a few others that I believe may also have been siblings - Owen, Kate, Mary, and Susie. Regarding the grandmother visit, I'd love to know more. It would be great if we are related.

Re: Rose "Rosie" OWENS-WILKINSON
Sean, Thank you for the access to the Owens family tree. I am pretty sure that we are related. I am not a member of Ancestry.com and that makes communication difficult. Nor do I have time to do the research I would need to do to assist you just at the moment as I am very busy at work. The family tree was something I planned to do on retirement in a year or two. Annie's son Joe (Josie) died at 87 years on 24.5.2014 in Baileborough, Co. Cavan. I attended the funeral. RIP. Joe's birthday was at the end of September. Her last remaining child, a son called Matthew ( her eldest son I think) is still alive and will be 94 also at the end of September. Her other children Angela, Eugene, Aidan, Rosemary and Teresa (my mother) are deceased. I will contact you again but it may be a while before I have time to do so. And I do not want to sign up to Ancestry.com until I have time to use the facility properly.I live in Dublin. Are you living in Calgary? Anne

Re: Rose "Rosie" OWENS-WILKINSON
I completely understand about the lack of time. I've been at this on and off since my first son was born in 2001. Mostly off, but occasionally i get motivated to dig again. I'll take the information you've given and see what I can find and will be sure to let you know. . . . And may have a question or two now and again. :-) As for me, I'm not in Calgary. That would be the Rosie Wilkinson Owens (Annie's older sister) branch. I'm of the Matthew Owens (Annie's older brother) branch. Cavan to New York and then my side to Florida. That said, I'm actually in Alaska near Anchorage. Sean

Re: Rose "Rosie" OWENS-WILKINSON
Thanks Sean. I am very interested in pursuing the development of the family tree over time. And will stay in touch. I will also try and get the dates of birth of my uncles and aunts and help fill in the blanks. I would prefer to communicate directly rather than on public message boards and need to consider how this might best be achieved. Anne

I'll try to send a message directly. If you're not a member, you may not be able to get it, but its worth a try.
