Suzanne,

Hope this message finds you well.

This is a response to your very old message but is relevant. I am the grandson of Charles Duke Craik b 1892 and have information on his line as well as Helen Craik who married James E. Jefferies in 1911.

Looking forward to your response.

Hi
I just came across your post. Charles Duke Craik is my husbands 1st great grand uncle. I am doing research for an upcoming reunion (2015) and would love any information or pictures you may have. I look forward to hearing from you.

My husband's line comes through Thomas Craik (b 1885) and Joan Young, then through their daughter Vera Craik.

Are you living in Calgary? There are a lot of Craiks there?
Thank you
Roni-Anne

Hello Roni-Anne,

Very nice to meet you. I was told you reached out to my cousin Brenda in Florida as well, another grandchild of Charlie Craik. I live in Mississauga (Toronto), so not all the family stayed in Calgary.

The research I have done has brought me to so interesting places for the Craiks. I did find info on Thomas and Joan (Johan) that you probably have already but I will share my tree on Ancestry for you to peruse.

Is this reunion you are planning a Craik reunion? As for pictures, I don't have a great deal of people photos, but will see what I can gather up and scan them for you. I did find it interesting that pictures of the ships our ancestors arrived in Canada on are all available from links in Ancestry.

I also did find a reference to the Craiks from Brechin, Forfar, Scotland that you might find curious. So far I am not able to hook it into our line of ancestors, but I am sure it will eventually connect.

"From 'Forfar' Wikipedia

Another important textile firm was J & A Craik & Company, Linen and Jute Manufacturers, which was based at the Manor Works in Forfar. Craiks was started in 1863 when James Craik obtained land in Forfar to build the Manor Works and the company survived until 1981, the year it became part of the Low and Bonar group."

Thomas and Joan did travel back to Scotland in 1929 with his father and mother Robert & MaryJane. You can find the Passenger manifests in their profiles on my tree.

Hope this helps and let me know how you do. Watch for the invite to my tree.

Hi Lorne
Thanks for your response. I would very much like to look at your tree and I can share mine as well. I have linked the J & A Craik & Company to our Craiks. The reunion is in 2016 on Vancouver Island, BC for the Craiks from Thomas Craik and Joan Young. Thomas Craik is the son of Robert & Mary Jane. Many years ago I came across a family tree of the Craiks and it had a photo of the whole Robert Craik and Mary Jane family (all the kids!). I have a photocopy of the photo, but cannot for the life of me find who or where I found it. I can scan it and send it to and your cousin Brenda. Whoever I got it from had written over their heads the names of the children, it kind of ruins it but at least it's a photo and you know who is who.
So my husbands grandfather Thomas and your grandfather Charles were brothers which makes you and my husband cousins? Is there anyone else I could get in contact with that you may know? Thanks for your time, I look forward to seeing your tree and perhaps some photos. Thanks again Lorne,
Roni-Anne

Hi Lorne
Do you have any idea when Thomas Craik and Joan Young were married and were? I can't seem to find any records of that. Thanks for any information you can provide. Do you have any photos of them or anyone else. Would you mind sharing your tree? Thank you
Roni-Anne

Hi, Find a Grave - online
Shows 114 CRAIK burials - Nationwide - Canada 208 CRAIK in USA
These are only ones found - there will be others - not yet transcribed - filmed etc

Have you searched Family Search Org Online ? for Date and Place of marriage.
If in Alberta it will not be found - unless family submitted information.
If you know When the first child was born - it can help determine - the date of marriage
per page
