I have been researching schmolke for years, have a break for a year, then work like crazy for awhile and each time learn more and more. However, I have never managed to find any records re Ancestors from Langhermsdorf, Fresystadt, Liegnitz in the province of schlesien. I have official documents of Gustav Adolf Schmolke, his school report card, his army (Prussian) discharge papers, we know he was born in September 1854. In 1877 he left (via Amsterdam) for South Africa. From his arrival, we have his entire History. But still .... I look

I am looking for Laqua relations also.

My grandma was Selma Laqua (born in 1898), her brothers were Fritz, Karl and August. Her sister was Ida. They were born in Tillowitz or Schidlow or closeby.

Hi, Karen,
Tom's message about Eologius being sent to MN to look for land in 1918 was picked up by a Hesch family blog. I thought I'd better add my two cents.
My mother remembered Eologius stopping in Minnesota on his way back from World War I. He was in the army through the war so I don't think he was sent to MN to look for land about 1918. His Schmolke family (Fred and Elizabeth and their younger children) moved to MN in 1919 though, at the urging of Fred's brother John who owned lots of land in MN. When he came back from the war the family was already in MN. My mother remembered him in his uniform. He went back to Alberta and no one saw him after that. Rose and Mary did go to Alberta to look for him. Apparently he had moved on to BC and changed his name to Eugene. He drowned. I have his estate papers and his military record.

(I tried to answer with the address given but it came back.)
I just saw your post on RootsWeb asking for info about Schmolkes. I'll help if I can. I do have a Charles Schmolke in my relationship. He was born in 1870 and married Mary Gohl. He died in Washington State. As far as I know he didn't have a son named William. However there may still be some Schmolke I can help with. Can you give me more names of yours ?
