Looking for any information on Sloan's in Athabasca. Oliver and Dorothy/Dorothea. Immigrated from England in 1913. Oliver remarried in 1920 in England and also brought new bride Emily to Athabasca area. She most likely came with 2 children from a previous marriage. Lena and Douglas. They later moved to BC, but not sure when that was. Any information would be helpful! Thank you.

Thank you for all that.
I do have most of that. I just can't find anything on their time in Alberta. No Albertan records to look through, so I thought someone might have some first or second hand knowledge to pass on

Hi, A ssearch of the 1916 Census may show the family & Location at the time.
The family may be listed in a City Directory/ eg
Henderson/ Wigleys - Criss Cross Directory
show name to address - address to name
May show names of all persons at an address - occupation.
Woman may not be shown -

Do you have any other family names/ names connected to the family?
They may have submitted family stories/histories to the Local History book project.
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~canab/lhb/lhbindex.html

In the early 1940's we had the National Registration of All Canadians over the age of 16 years. This information is available - the cost at one time $48.15
Returned if nothing found.

Unless familes made themsselves known - most will lead very quiet lives - difficult to trace / obtain information about.

Cheers, Stella

Thank you very much for that. I've had no luck with the 1916 census. I found out today that they didn't move to BC until 1932. I'll keep digging!

My father stated that his grandfather Oliver Stewart Sloan enlisted in 1915. I found the previously mentioned document as well.

My father also stated that that all of that side of the family were from Alberta

I apologize, I haven't been on ancestry in forever! If you have any information I would be interested. Of course, this is if we are talking about the same Oliver Sloan.
Thanks Kacy

My father stated that his Grandfather came from England. He joined the Canadian Army in 1918 by lying
his age. He was member of the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment.

I previously located this document which seems to support what my father stated about his grandfather.

He went on to say that his father Bruce was adopted by SMITHS from Edmonton who stayed there. His father Bruce and Mother Marie moved to Alberta and passed away there in 1972 and 1973.
